Fat Goblin Games Announces new Shadows over Vathak Core Books for Pathfinder Roleplaying!

Fat Goblin Games announced the new edition of Shadows over Vathak, the popular Lovecraftian Adventure Horror PGVATHAK.jpg setting for the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game.
The new edition is being presented in three smaller, focused books and include; The Player’s Guide to Vathak, The Horror Master’s Guide to Vathak, and Monstrosities of Vathak.
Shadows over Vathak co-creator Rick Hershey has been involved at a high level and overseeing the project with Line Developer, John Bennett: “We’ve been wanting to update the setting core book for Shadows over Vathak for a good while, not only to implement the many new rules systems released over the years, but to make the vast setting clearer and in-line with our other products!”
The original setting book for Shadows over Vathak was created as a 24 hour design challenge and quickly exceeded the original goal and became a 250 page release. The new editions of the setting promise to take this core book and present it with new options and a clearer presentation of the setting. Line Developer John Bennett (Occult Adventures for Paizo, Against the Cult of the Bat God for Raging Swan Press, It Came from the Stars for Zombie Sky) has dome amazing things with the setting since taking over in 2014.
The Player’s Guide to Vathak will be released in October 2015 as pdf and full-color softcover.
Why three books and what are they? When will they be out?
Rick: The Player’s Guide to Vathak will clean up a lot of content from the original setting book, as well as offering core concepts for players new to Vathak and horror games in general. Basically, everything is getting cleaned up, better organized, and new content.
John: Three books is also more convenient and less expensive for everyone- the players will have everything they need in one smaller book, the GMs in another, and the monster book, while designed for Vathak, can be easily ported over to any campaign world.
What kind of new content will there be?
John: Since the original campaign setting book came out in 2011, a lot of new Pathfinder material has been released, including many new classes, rule systems, and monsters. We will be incorporating that, giving it a Vathak spin, as well as designing fresh material appropriate for the setting.
Will it include support for Occult Adventures?
Rick: As John was one of the writers on Occult Adventures, I expect to see some support in our new Vathak setting books.
John: Yes, definitely. The materials found within Occult Adventures perfectly complements the themes in Shadows over Vathak. We will be providing information on how to incorporate the six new classes and expect to see support (new archetypes, feats, spells, and subsystem support) in many of our Vathak regional products.
Is this just a republish of the old book(s) or is this new content?
Rick: A lot of the content from the original core setting book will be revisited, cleaned up, and included. Some of it will be used in the building of new features, some of it will be dropped or explored in later products.
John: A lot of old content will be cleaned up, tightened, and updated. The core concepts of what Shadows over Vathak is will remain while bringing it up to date with the new Pathfinder material that has been released in the last four years.
Why should I buy this when Horror Adventures is coming out next year?
John: Both Occult Adventures and Horror Adventures are toolkits. While they both will have new rules that complement Shadows over Vathak well, they are not campaign settings. Shadows over Vathak offers you a rich world steeped in Lovecraftian horror that makes the most out of those two releases.
How does this change other products released for the setting?
Rick: The only product that will be changed by this new direction is the core setting book, Shadows over Vathak. All products released as standalone, as part of the Colonies product line, or our Enhanced Racial guides will continue to be compatible with the setting.
John: When we started with the first regional Colonies product, we knew that we wanted to eventually do an update of the campaign setting book for the reasons mentioned above. Therefore, in the process of writing the new products that have been released over the last two years, we’ve been careful to ensure that the material within would be fully compatible with the future direction of the campaign setting.
Expect to see more updates in the next two months as we get nearer to the release of the Player’s Guide to Vathak.
