One of the things I've loved about 4E is the move away from the 'dungeon punk' artwork. The subjects still look exotic and 'heroic' (however I define that) but they're more grounded in reality.
Right now at least my favorite artwork is the (relatively small) drawing of the warrior on horseback on P. 37 of the DMG. He looks almost exactly how I would imagine a lone adventurer, armed to the teeth and ready for anything.
