I have published some rules that can be used for Fear, Horror and Madness checks, using the 5th edition core rules, with the upcoming release of "Van Richter's Guide to Ravenloft". You can find the product on the following link:

The set of rules can be used outside of Ravenloft also, each DM can use this rule set in his/her campaign setting.
