I've made a long feat chain for fencing (I'm making a renaissance campaign with much swashbuckling but for now I'm without Sword and Fist) Any suggestions/critiques are welcome Fencing Fencing is a fighting style that can be used with the following melee weapons: shortsword, rapier, dagger (and possibly some other exotic, finessable piercing weapons). Fencing [generic, fighter] [fencing] Requires: BAB 2+, Weapon Finesse (any one fencing weapon) Effects: You can use the fencing style when you are fighting with a fencing weapon in which you have weapon finesse, against an opponent that also use a fencing weapon, with no more than a light encumbrance and not holding anything larger than a buckler or a light weapon in your other hand. Using the fencing style gives you a +1 to hit and +1 dodge bonus to AC against that opponent. This style can also be used when making disarm attempts, with exactly the same effects (+1 to the attack roll and a +1 dodge bonus). You can use the fencing style only against one opponent at time (unless, of course, you have the Multiple Fencing feat). Defensive Fencing [generic, fighter] [fencing] Requires: Int 13+, BAB 4+, Weapon Finesse (any one fencing weapon), Fencing, Expertise Effects: When you are fighting with the fencing style you gain an dodge bonus to AC equal to your int bonus - 1 (note that the -1 is canceled by the +1 that you get from Fencing). You still get the +1 to hit from the fencing feat. This does not stack with similar abilities (such as the Duelist Canny Defense). Lunge [generic, fighter] [fencing] You are able to perform a deadly blow, but that in case of failure leaves you open to the opponent attacks. Requires: BAB 4+, Weapon Finesse (any one fencing weapon), Fencing Effect: When fighting with the fencing style, as a standard action you can make a lunge attack. This is an attack with a +2 to hit bonus and threat range doubled (stacks with Improved Critical and keen weapons). The opponent can decide (as a free action during your turn, in response to the declaration of a lunge attack) to take a 5 ft step in any backwards direction (back, back left or back right); this does not provoke AoO from you, but it might provoke them from other characters threatening the square he is. If he moves the lunge attack is at a -2 bonus (instead of the +2) but you can freely move where the opponent was without provoking AoO from him. The opponent can move only if the destination 5 ft square is empty. If he does not move and you fail the attack he can make an AoO against you with a +4 to hit bonus; you cannot fight defensively or use expertise when making a lunge. The standard fencing bonuses (+1 to hit and AC) apply. Improved Feint [generic, fighter] [fencing] You are skilled in quick feints while fencing, and also good in avoiding being tricked by those who feint against you. Requires: Bluff 3 ranks, Dex 13+, BAB 4+, Weapon Finesse (any one fencing weapon), Dodge, Fencing Effect: When fighting with the fencing style, as a move action you can make a bluff check opposed to the opponent's sense motive check. If you succeed the opponent is considered flat-footed from your next attack. You get a +2 to bluff and sense motive checks used for feints while fencing. Normal: making a feint is a standard action. Two Weapon Fencing [generic, fighter] [fencing] You are able to use two weapons while fencing with fluid movements, both parrying and stabbing. Requires: Dex 15+, BAB 2+, Weapon Finesse (any fencing weapon), Fencing, Ambidexterity Effects: when fighting with the fencing style, holding a weapon such as a dagger or a main-gauche in your other hand and fighting with two weapons you get a +2 to hit and a +2 dodge bonus to AC. This replaces (does not stack with) the standard +1 to hit and AC bonuses from Fencing. The standard two weapon fighting penalties still apply. You will have a total -2/-2 to the attacks unless you have also the Two Weapon Fighting feat that would reduce them to 0/0. Fencing Disarm [generic, fighter] [fencing] You are skilled in disarming opponents while fencing even with weapons as small as a dagger. Requires: BAB 4+, Int 13+, Weapon Finesse (any one weapon), Expertise, Fencing Effect: When fighting with the fencing style and making a disarm attempt against an opponent that has a weapon larger than yours the penalty is lessened by 4 (your weapon is treated as one size larger). Normal: When making a disarm attack rolls you have a -4 penalty for every size increment below medium, and a +4 bonus for every size increment above maximum. Improved Fencing [generic, fighter] [fencing] You are a very well trained in the fencing style. Requires: BAB 6+, Int 13+, Dex 15+, Weapon Finesse (any one fencing weapon), Dodge, Expertise, Fencing, any other one fencing feat. Effects: when using the fencing style, you get an additional +1 to hit and +1 dodge bonus to AC (stacks with the +1 bonuses provided by the Fencing feat for a total of +2 to attacks and AC). Against a lunge attack you can react by moving sideways instead of only backward (but only in free squares). Multiple Fencing [generic, fighter] [fencing] You are able to fence against more than one opponent. Requires: BAB 6+, Int 13+, Dex 15+, Weapon Finesse (any one fencing weapon), Dodge, Expertise, Fencing, Improved Fencing, any other one fencing feat. Effect: you can use the fencing style also when fighting against multiple opponents, but no more than one + your Int or Dex modifier (use the lower one). Normal: you can use the fencing style only against one opponent. Riposte [generic, fighter] [fencing] You are able to react to failed fencing blows against you. Requires: BAB 6+, Int 13+, Dex 15+, Weapon Finesse (any one fencing weapon), Dodge, Expertise, Fencing, Improved Fencing, any other one fencing feat. Effects: when you are fighting with the fencing style against someone using the fencing style, and he fails an attack against you by 2 or more, you can make an AoO against him with a -2 penalty. You can use this AoO to make a disarm attempt (with the same -2 penalty). The AoO counts against your limit of AoO every round, and this feat can be used no more than one time every round even if you have the Combat Reflexes feat. Versatile Fencing [generic, fighter] [fencing] Your fencing skill makes you better even when fighting enemies that use non fencing weapons, such as axes or greatswords. Requires: BAB 6+, Int 13+, Dex 15+, Weapon Finesse (any one fencing weapon), Dodge, Expertise, Fencing, Improved Fencing, any other one fencing feat. Effect: you can use the fencing style also against medium or small humanoid opponents armed with any melee weapon with a reach of 5 ft (or less), including unarmed ones, but you take a -1 to hit and a -1 to AC (your fencing attack and AC bonuses are lessened by 1). Normal: you can use the fencing style only against opponents that use fencing weapons. Master Fencing [generic, fighter] [fencing] You are a true master in fencing Requires: BAB 10+, Int 15+, Dex 17+, Weapon Finesse (any one fencing weapon), Dodge, Expertise, Fencing, Improved Fencing, any other three fencing feats. Effects: when fighting with the fencing style you get an additional +1 to hit and a +1 dodge bonus to AC (that stack with Fencing and Improved Fencing for a total of +3). Against a lunge attack you can react by moving in any direction, including forwards (in this case your opponent is forced to move in the square you were, and you simply exchange positions). You can move only in a free square (except for the presence of your opponent). ----------------- I've attached a quick graph that shows how feats are related
