Premise if Intimidate skill can be used as the key ability associated with forcing an enemy to give up.. how different than that is using athletics in a disarm maneuver .... but we can do something more interesting than just that. Feat : Fencing This extends the skill athletics to include some specialty combat related abilities and knowledge regarding famous fencers and the hierarchy of who are believed the best in the world, it allows a +2 feat benefit when using athletics in the arena of oneupmanship amongst the nobles of the world. This knowledge may also be used to enhance (+2 feat benefit) ones diplomatic influence with other fencers. 1) Martial Marking : you can ensure that your opponent was marked when one of your attacks bloodies them (this is a subtle benefit but basically guarantees a scratch instead of other bloodied visualizations and is garanteed to piss off some arcanists and lucky villains and npcs). This is the mark of Zorro ability. 2) Estimate Fencer : It might be used to estimate the martial ability of an enemy before you fight them. The benefits are mostly just in choosing whom to engage it can be done based on just how they move, they do not need to be engaged in battle. And works against anyone with martial training or of a martial class. 3) Riposting Disarm : A Bloodied Opponent must fail a melee attack against you. Your roll is against a Difficulty Class of the better of your enemies Reflex or Fortitude Defense + 10. The effect causes the weapon to be dropped in a square adjacent to your adversary (the attackers choice) If you are fighting someplace precarious recovery of their weapon maybe challenge. Cut to scene where Connor disarms Ramirez on cliff edge and they both look over the side. Many adversaries will give up when disarmed others will flee. Many magical weapons if not all include simple enchantments which make most forms of disarm extraordinarily if not impossibly difficult. For this reason many for whom fencing is a traditional sport wil forbid the use of magical weaponry in organized arena events, as disarming ones enemies is considered a part of the heritage of fencing. http://docs.google.com/View?id=dgvb6x6n_12fn3nkkg9 Many consider fencing a fluff knowledge because of the above.(this may be the reason it is not commonly just a part of athletics). Though they may change there mind if arrayed against primitives without the benefits of magic. Skill focus for Fencing must be taken distinct from Athletics and only apply to Challenges related to martial use of athletics. Disarm is a try it once trick if you try against a particular opponent and fail you will need to try next encounter or against a different opponent...or wait til your opponent has really and truly run out of luck (at zero hitpoints you may choose to disarm instead of knocking someone unconscious or killing).
