Fiend Points? Tainted Spellcaster?

Riveneye

First Post
Well, I've certainly had an interesting session tonight! After battling 2 undead worms (one actually gobbled me up), my party of 8 got 13500xp each (!), but since we're in the middle of a very large desert, we have no where to train up. So, as I went back to meditating (I'm a half-elf and we were attacked in the night), I heard this voice. It was offering to train me in either a spellcaster or warrior level. I recognised the voice to be that of this woman that just appeared in our camp one night, who ran over to me and kissed me (I play a female character too ;)). After that, she just vanished. Anyway, after being promised darkvision and +cha if i took more levels of the class, and I eventually accepted the offer. It turns out that I am now sharing my soul with a succubus. I've been told that I now have a level of tainted spellcaster, and have 6 fiend points. What I would like to know is, where can I read more about this class, and these 'fiend points'? I don't mind if I have to go out and get more books/magazines, I just want to know what trouble I've gotten myself in to ;)

The tainted classes can be found in the latest Dragon, though I thought the only two classes it offered were "Warrior" and "Cleric"... I guess it wouldn't be hard to adapt the cleric, though.

Warrior and Spellcaster actually.

yay!!!!

You gave in to the dark temptation? really and true??
Your DM must like you very much. PCs never give into dark temptation.... not even a little bit. Its always light-light-light-we-shouldn't-even-speak-to-the-evil-man-we-could-suddenly-loose-levels-or-our-hair-or.....

It's fine. I'm fine. I just had a moment. Honestly you should be pretty pleased with yourself, you've made your game significantly more interesting and given yourself and interesting roleplaying opportunity.

I suggest NOT READING THE DRAGON. it will make the game infinitely better for you. (Its not that they're anything particularly amazing in there.... its the kind of stuff you would expect) but the game will go much better if you don't worry about the mechanics of it and just go with the flow.

cheers,
Graf

PS Your DM may very well change things anyway...

To tell you the truth, I probably wouldn't have accepted the offer if I knew she was a succubus! :)

As for the Dragon magazine, it comes out in Australia this Friday, so I'll have to wait a while to read it, if I decide to.

I don't actually mind becoming tainted... it's just that it sorta screws with my character plan. If I'm to take more levels of Tainted Spellcaster, I'll have to put off my plan longer. I've only got 3 levels of Arcane Archer to go, then 2 levels of Darkwood Sniper, then I would have started on epic Arcane Archer levels. I just hope our campaign last long enough that I can complete that plan and fit Tainted Spellcaster levels in there somewhere too (our campaign has been going for a year now).

I heard something about Mice and Men...

You could also think about it as: I can play an arcane archer in any game..... how often do ‚h get the chance to play a fiend?

I realize it's probably frustrating, though. There doesn't seem to be much reason for your possession....
(your character have any ancient relatives who made dark pacts?)

tainted Spellcasting...... yessssss... hehehehee...

giving in to dark temptation... hmmm.... hehehehe...

That reminds me of Ravenloft power checks... they really sacred the players out o room and out game, sometimes..

How am I meant to play a fiend though? I'm in a party of neutral and good people. I'm just having a little trouble picturing what a fiend would do in a situation like this (besides kill everyone and run around wild).

Who says you are fiend. You have just been tainted by one. They gave you power and probably want something in return. Do you help this succubus? What if you are after the same thing? I see many possibilities. As for character plans, well plans change all the time, adapt. If the demon doesn't control you there is no reason you couldn't still work with your party. Do they know what you did or is a big dark secret??
