Fiendish "Vermin"

Would a huge fiendish monstrous scorpion have any feats? If so, and the creature is summoned by a PC, who would decide what feats it gets? I am creating 'stat cards' for all of the summoned monsters and just realized that the fiendish vermin should probably get feats. They have Int 3 and are magical beasts, and although it says "Do not recalculate the creature’s Hit Dice, base attack bonus, saves, or skill points if its type changes." It does not mention feats.

My take: since the template doesn't grant the feats, the creature doesn't get them. But, it sure would be nice. :)

You know, I never noticed that before :)

Is the reasoning for the lack of feats for vermin due to their lack of Intelligence score? If so, then I would think that it should grant feats. Especially since the quote doesn't include anything about feats.

However, the designer's felt it was important enough to grant the smaller vermin Weapon Finesse so I can't see a reasoning for not giving any of the other vermin feats :\

I'm thinking I may have to email customer support about this and see if I can get a "favorable" answer for my Conjurer that the DM will allow

Well, according to Customer Service at WOTC they would gain feats and skill points ;)

Brett,

Remember that the Fiendish and Celestial templates change animals and vermin into magical beasts. Magical Beasts do get feats and skills points.

Dear Customer Service,

Vermin normally do not gain any skill points or feats due to the fact that they do not have an Intelligence score. How does applying the Celestial or Fiendish templates to the creatures (such as summoning them using Summon Monster spells) affect them? According to the Celestial and Fiendish templates, any creature with the template has a minimum Intelligence of 3.

If applied to a Fiendish Huge Monsterous Centepede is summoned, does it gain any feats (the usual 1 + 1 per 3 HD)from the Fiendish template since it gives the creature a 3 Intelligence? By reading the Monster Manual table 4-1, once the creature has an Intelligence, it should recieve the benefits of gaining skills and feats.

Thank you,

So, has anyone gone through the summon monster lists and picked feats for all the fiendish and celestial vermin? :)

Note that they don't get skills because the templates specifically say to not recalculate the skills points.
