Darnit, this is a good idea.

It allows for a +3, 1d10 damage dual-wielding ranger with the expense of just one feat. Exactly as if you'd gotten a bastard sword proficiency.

Except... it isn't retarded.

It also means if you take an extra feat, you could wield two katars for 1d10 each.

Think about it.

What's the big deal about holding two bastard swords? I would understand its unrealistic, but there's elves, dwarves, and dragonblooded. I think reality needs to be quiet now and then.

I do, however like the feat, not broken, and it allows for characters who want to use smaller weapons to do so, and do it well.

Shouldn't two-weapon mastery require, dunno, dual wielding in _some_ fashion :)

Also, why the focus on light blades? No love for dual hammers, scimitars, longswords, etc?

Doesn't a katar do a d6 for damage? Up one category would make a d8. If not, sorry... :D

Yeah, I think it is 1d6, but a two-weapon ranger under these rules is getting +2 dice steps (one from the feat, one from the class feature)... so, that's 1d10.

Yes, it has that.

And dual hammers and longswords are almost as lame as dual bastard swords.

Scimitars... well, no system is perfect.

TWF Feature: Is this for flavor? I'm all for flavor increasing the damage of a weapon, but I'd still consider it unbalancing.

TWM Feat: well, TWF Feat already does that, on average, so this is a third increase in weapon performance. I'm sure it will be released in a splat later, but is there any need right now? TWF ranger already does tons of damage.

How is it unbalancing? It's numerically identical to the current Ranger TWF class feature. It's a fluff change only. Kzach doesn't like dual-wielding two 'large' weapons, like two longswords, or two bastard swords. This change forces you to wield a light blade in your offhand (or one in your main hand too). The class feature lets you wield a longsword and short sword or two short swords with the same damage output as two longswords (as per the RAW class feature). The feat allows you to wield a bastard sword and short sword with the same damage output as two bastard swords.

Note to Kzach: why specify light blade? Why not off-hand weapons instead?

Good point.

Fixed.

Actually, that makes it a lot better. Two hand axes or two throwing hammers becomes effective now too.

I did just realise, though, that with a third feat you could do some seriously nasty damage. With rapiers this would give you 1d12 and with katars this would give you 1d10, high crit.

Hmm...
