It's been freaking forever since I wrote out some stats, but the rules for swarms as presented in the Fiend Folio were too sweet to pass up! Here we go - as always, I am positive I screwed a few things up so feel free to critique, make suggestions, whatever. Specifically, I need a suggestion for CR -- always a sore point with me. Hail of Nails Medium-Size Construct (Swarm of Diminutive Creatures) Hit Dice: 12d10+20 (86 hp) Initiative: +5 (+5 Dex) Speed: Fly 60 ft. (perfect) AC: 24 (+5 Dex, +8 natural) Base Attack/Grapple: +8/0 Attack: Swarm Full Attack: Swarm Damage: Swarm 3d6 plus shred Face/Reach: 5 ft./0 ft. Special Attacks: Distraction (DC 16), shred Special Qualities: Construct traits, fire resistance 15, swarm traits Saves: Fort +4, Ref +9, Will +6 Abilities: Str 3, Dex 20, Con -, Int 0, Wis 14, Cha 1 Skills: Hide +5, Move Silently +9 Climate/Terrain: Any land and underground Organization: Solitary Challenge Rating: Treasure: None Alignment: Always neutral Advancement: - A hail of nails is a cloud of six-inch long iron nails that can literally scour the flesh off any living creature caught within it. Rumor has it thse constructs were originally built as a weapon against sorcerers; if so, it was a long time ago. They are used most often to guard dumping grounds for hazardous magical byproducts. Combat: A hail of nails is a fairly simple combatant, flying toward the nearest targest and trying to rip skin away as quick as it can. Distraction (Ex): Any nonmindless creature vulnerable to the swarm's damage that begins its turn with a swarm in its square is nauseated for 1 round; a Fortitude save (DC 16) negates the effect. Spellcasting or concentrating on spells within the area of a hail of nails requires a Concentration check (DC 20 + spell level). Using skills involving patience and concentration requires a Concentration check (DC 20). Shred (Ex): Any creature with flesh vulnerable to the swarm's damage that begins its turn with a swarm in its square takes 1d4 points of Constitution damage and 1d4 points of Charisma damage from having the flesh torn from its bones. A Fortitude save (DC 17) negates the damage. Construct Traits (Ex): A hail of nails is immune to mind- affecting attacks, and to poison, sleep, paralysis, stunning, disease, death effects, necromantic effects, any effect that requires a Fortitude save unless it also works on objects The creature is not subject to critical hits, subdual damage, ability damage, energy drain, or death from massive damage. It cannot heal itself but can be healed through repair. It cannot be raised or resurrected. A hail of nails has darkvision (60 -foot range.) Swarm Traits (Ex): Not subject to critical hits or flanking. Immune to mind-affecting spells. Immune to damage from all weapons. Immune to single-target spells. Vulnerable to to area effects. Does not threaten nearby squares. Skills: A hail of nails recieves a +4 racial bonus on Move Silently checks.
