Finally got the new Ravenloft.

Treebore

First Post
I admit I was expecting to be very dissappointed. I was sure it was going to be messed up.

OK. I was wrong. I love what they did with it. I love the new NPC's, I love the new story elements, I love the redo of the Vistani, and I even love the maps, because even though they didn't give them full page treatment they did them the same way as I6.

Now if they make these battle maps available as downloads I'll really love this book. I think I would even be happy if they sold a "Ravenloft map pack" or tile set. Maybe even happier.

Its been a long time since WOTC has done something that made me this happy.

If any WOTC employees read this give the "team" a hearty slap on the back and heart felt thanks for me. Job very well done in my estimation.

Nice to know you liked it Tree. Me I want it if only for the Ravenloft "completeness" of it. Certainly when I thumbed through it, the art work and the maps were extremely well done. Course I have to wait for my paycheck before I get this...so it might be a while longer.

I spent about 45 min reading it the other day too. I've been outta the RPG loop for 3 years and really haven't been impressed with any of the 3.5 books I've been browsing through the past few weeks..and I've been looking at EVERYTHING. Secrets of X'endrik was kinda decent...and the DMG II...but nothing else even remotely had me considering pulling out the plastic. I'm a big fan of utility/toolkit/idea books...kinda like the 3.o MoTP was.

The new RL book really impressed the heck out of me. I love the new "format" for encounters and overall it just seemed like a quality, extremely well done and useful book. I'd like to see a bunch more books like this outta WOTC.

I just bought it too. I'm not quite sure if I like the 2 page spreads for several of the rooms though I do like the information provided on them.

Reading through it and plan on DMing it shortly. :)

I'm definitely with you on this one. I'm still in shock about liking it so much, especially something out of WOTC. I hope Ari's city book comes close.

I'm going to be running the original using C&C next weekend, but I am definitely stealling ideas out of this one for the game. ITs not going to be a one or two night game anymore. I might wrap it up in 4 to 6 sessions, maybe. If Strahd doesn't kill them earlier. :]

Seriously, I HATED the PHB2 at first. After 4 gaming sessions, I hafta say I love it now. The new classes = cool, and the final chapter gives charts on how to easily create PCs or NPCs from "recommended" Skills to Feats and even gear. It's really good, trust me.

Who are the contributing authors?

Bruce R. Cordell and James Wyatt.

It definitely looks very nicely done (havn't looked at it in detail yet, only got it the day before yesterday).

One thing is a little weird, though, they posted Strahd's complete stat blocks on the WotC site as an advertisement for the adventure. :uhoh:

Bye
Thanee
