Finally! The AWFUL TRUTH is Told!

That link points to the current cartoon, which for the moment is a commentary on Spider-Man being emo. Might want to update your link.

Our understanding is that we can sell PDFs in perpetuity. We definitely can sell existing copies for as long as they last, and a lot of them will last a very, very long time.

(In the spirit of the strip...) My understanding is that we can pirate the PDFs in perpetuity, too... ;)

They stated on their forums that they're allowed to sell the back issues as long as they last.

Oh, about the comic, they also said that Dragon and Dungeon were profitable. It wasn't Paizo's decision to end the license. (Though I understand that all involved are still friends, Wotc apparently bent over backwards to give Paizo the time to transition to Pathfinder.)

And if someone for some obscure reason wants my opinion on electronic 'piracy', I think that Eric Flint says it better over at http://www.baen.com/library/

/Jonas, looking forward to his shiny new toys^H^H^H^HPathfinder issues.

Something can be profitable but not a good business decision to keep going. Marvel cancelled a profitable series in X-Men: The Hidden Years several years ago. It helped them to open up new avenues to generate interest that they needed to generate even more profit. Such a plan is probably the same as WOTC. Had more people subscribed to the magazine and bought it off the stands, then yes, I can imagine it would continue in such a way but judging by my own store and other owners I have talked to news stand sales of Dragon had started dwindling when they revised the format to "player's only" and Dungeon got a small burst from the Adventure Paths but as good as AOW was, it dwindled in sales and didn't look to be recovering though there is some interest in Pathfinder... which looks AWESOME.
