This is for 2014 dnd.

1) from how far away can the wizard place their familiar in a pocket dimension?

2) from the pocket dimension, they can summon the familiar. How far away does the familiar appear? Can it appear within a box or behind door? (Aka a quasi teleport?)

1) there's no stated limitation on the distance.
2) you can cause it to reappear in any unoccupied space within 30 feet of you.

So you don't have to see where it reappers. Sounds like a recipe for abuse.

Maybe. But I do use line of sight for both effects.

I’ve interpreted it that the familiar itself chooses how and where it appears, not the caster.

Can’t speak to rules intent, but the spell language is distinct from other summoning spells - no “of your choice”, no “unoccupied space that you can see”, etc.

This prevents any abuse and encourages a bit more flare/flavor. Have the frog climb out of the duke’s underwear drawer, why not?
