This doesn’t really fall under “rules” but it is a disagreement about the game. I know it may seem pointless but this has been brought up enough that I want it cleared up. Our DM loves to constantly retail the story of how I asked a town guard where the thieves’ guild was located. Well I want to give a short recalling of that conversation to see if anyone buys this hoax of a story. This was 2nd edition by the way First let me set the stage. The party had just gotten to a major city and everyone was going off to do their own thing. I was playing a thief, and I was a new player, so I mistakenly believed that all thieves new where the guild was. The conversation went like this. Me: Where is the thieves’ guild? DM: I don’t know, why don’t you ask that guard over there? Me: (Thinking that was a joke) Where is the thieves’ guild? DM: Ok, the guard arrests you and takes you away. Me: I didn’t ask the guard where it was! DM: I said, “Why don’t you ask that guard” Me: I thought you were joking. DM: Well apparently I wasn’t. The DM and I aren’t in disagreement on what was said. We both agree the previous conversation was how it happened. What we are disagreeing on is what was meant by my words. Would anyone hearing that conversation take the DM’s side? Even if he made an honest mistake, the second I corrected him he should have said, “Oh, sorry, I thought you asked the guard.” Or do you guys actually believe the DM was right in what he did and in his version of the story
