A massive creature that rolls across the ground on solid rollers. Many limbs flex from its sides, some ending in claws or narrow toothy jaws. It seems to be formed from living flesh, but its skin perfectly mimics stone or wood.
These relatives of the mimic appear to be large stone objects of some sort. The creature’s form always has wheels, runners, or some other source of mobility. They can change form and grow pseudopods just like a mimic, but do so far more slowly. Lesser juggernaut mimics can project far more pseudopods than a regular mimic—up to a dozen or so—although they can not attack with more than six at a time. Heads on pseudopods may permit the juggernaut to make noises of many sorts, and a few can even speak (though poorly).
These monsters are as aggressive and carnivorous as killer mimics, and like killer mimics they are occasionally used as guardians by creatures powerful or reckless enough to face the risk of being crushed and eaten by their monstrous guardian. Lesser juggernaut mimics are also occasionally used in warfare, but are dim-witted and far less reliable than a greater juggernaut mimic or juggernaut golem. They also dislike performing long periods of activity, being ambush predators by nature.
A lesser juggernaut mimic can have almost any dimensions, but usually is not more than 8 to 12 feet long. A typical lesser juggernaut has a volume of 240 cubic feet (roughly 5 feet by 5 feet by 10 feet, or 5 feet by 6 feet by 8 feet) and weighs about 12,000 pounds. The biggest specimens can grow to twice those dimensions.
Exceptionally intelligent lesser juggernauts may speak Common or Undercommon, but most lesser juggernauts are either too stupid or too ignorant to know any language. Lesser juggernaut mimics speak by forming a pseudopod with a mouth, and can also form pseudopods into trumpets to produce roars, whistles and musical notes which can be heard over great distances.
Combat
Lesser juggernaut mimics pretend to be a piece of scenery or equipment, such as a mobile crane or many-armed idol, then wait for victims to wander nearby. They then rise up on their rollers and try to trample as many victims as they can, striking out with their pseudopods at any opponents who evade their wheels.
Mimic Shape (Ex): A Large-sized lesser juggernaut mimic can assume the shape of any solid stone or wooden object that fills roughly 240 cubic feet (5 feet by 6 feet by 8 feet), such as a massive statue or wagon. The shape must have wheels or rollers to allow the juggernaut to move, most lesser juggernauts shape their body to they can conceal these rollers by lowering their body over them. In addition, a lesser juggernaut usually has at least six appendages to attack with, which can appear to be almost anything – arms, tentacles, heads, wooden beams et cetera. Changing a mimicked shape is a slow process: it takes a lesser juggernaut an hour to change the shape of its body, 10 minutes to grow a new pseudopod appendage, and a full minute to repurpose an existing pseudopod. A juggernaut mimic's body is hard and has a rough texture, no matter what appearance it might present. Anyone who examines the lesser juggernaut mimic can detect the ruse with a successful Spot check opposed by the mimic's Disguise check. Of course, by this time it is generally far too late.
Pseudopods (Ex): A lesser juggernaut mimic can produce up to a dozen pseudopods in any shape it desires. These pseudopods can form into weapons, including toothy jaws, pincers, rams and so forth, able to make bite, claw, gore, slam, sting or tentacle attacks. However, the lesser juggernaut cannot attack with more than six pseudopods with a full attack. A pseudopod ending in a trumpet, head or mouth can produce many sorts of noise or even speech. It takes 10 minutes for a lesser juggernaut mimic to form a new pseudopod or absorb and regrow a damaged one, but repurposing an existing pseudopod only takes 1 minute.
Trample (Ex): A lesser juggernaut mimic can trample creatures of up to Medium size for 8d10+12 damage (up to Large size and 10d10+20 damage for a Huge-sized lesser juggernaut). Opponents may make an attack of opportunity or attempt to leap out of the way (DC 21 Reflex save for half damage). The save DC is Strength-based.
Skills
A lesser juggernaut mimic has a +8 racial bonus on Disguise checks.
