His little band of men called themselves a militia and ‘protected’ them from the Alliance and other offworlders. In return, they demanded tribute and food of the surrounding towns. She said they’d be able to tell the difference between her group and Mad Michael’s, because her men dressed like farmers and his dressed like bandits. She offered them use of some horses, but Daniel declined. She did pull out a map of the area and showed Daniel about where Mad Michael was. She said her best tracker had been killed and her other tracker was out with their party. When Campan asked if the other towns might pay for Mad Michael’s head, she said that the other towns wouldn’t mind a corpse of him, but he’d likely stolen anything they could pay with. She said Mad Michael had a large pistol and a big knife. His men were armed with pistols and shotguns. Daniel asked if he had any likes or dislikes. She said he liked cigars. He asked if she had a communication device of some sort, if he had more connections. She pointed at the unlit candles around the room and said they didn’t have power. Campan made a very good bird call, making it sound like a flock of turkeys were around. The lookout got down to go check it out. As he got closer, Mort saw the guy had a single barrel shotgun with an external hammer and got out his screwdriver. As the guy passed them, Mort lunged out and shoved his screwdriver in to stop the hammer from striking, stopping the shotgun from firing. As Daniel brought the butt of his own shotgun down on the guy’s head, Mort pulled the guy’s shotgun away from him. Daniel quickly finished knocking the guy out as Mort uncocked the guy’s shotgun. Mort then slit the teenager’s throat. Pulling the guy’s rope belt off of him, he used it to tied his legs together and hang him from a nearby tree. Campan was pretty sure he knew where the next lookout would be. Fade to Black
