Firkraag's Dungeon

Rapida

First Post
Hello all, I realize this forum is a little stagnant at the moment so this is an attempt to help. I've been participating in a play by post on a different board lately. The thing is this is a rather odd game, I'm the BBEG of my very own dungeon. I realize that is quite strange, but anyhoo. I'm a half-red dragon human fighter and I'm going to be posting here every day with updates on how my dungeon is doing. If anyone would like to help me on this little project I'm sure something could be worked out. At present I don't have very good descriptions of any of my rooms. Also if you have any suggestions on monsters to hire or traps to build suggest away. Ok well I'm going to post the dungeon now. There is also other dungeons being made by players but I dont care about them so :p. Oh yeah, if no one posts here I will smite you all! :]
Day 1
Firkraag the Destroyer
Firkraag finds his future home on a blazingly hot day. His future home is a tall cliff that the sun hits the majority of the day. The cliff is a harsh mountainous terrain with a rocky landscape spread beneath the face of it. The base of the cliff is ontop of a small rise of rocks and sand. "Hmm first things first I guess." Firkraag scratches a rough symbol of a draconic eye engulfed in flames. "Good, now for some slaves," he murmurs. Firkraag finds a nearby tribe of Kobolds and barters with them for 12 of their fellows. He gives the kobold chief 6 gold for them. He then returns to the site of his rune and commands them to dig. Then he contacts a tribe of Dracotaurs and asks them for 2 of their warriors for assistance. He gives the warriors both 10.8 gold with promises of more. He then joins in with the kobolds digging.
-----------------------------------------------
OOC: I am using my 10% racial bonus on dragons.
Hours 1-3 Spent hiring 12 kobolds for 6 gold.
Hours 4-9 Spent Hiring 2 Dracotaurs for 21.6 gold.
Hour 10 Spent helping with the digging
So, breaking it down: The first 4 kobolds dug 9 hours. The second 4 kobold dug 8 hours. The third group of 4 kobold dug 7 hours. The first dracotaur supervises the kobolds for 4 hours. The second dracotaur digs for 1 hour. And I dig for 1 hour.
Day 1's results:
Firkraag: While you work to recuit in the kobolds and dracotaur your kobold workers sit at the base of the cliff, complaining over the hot sun and how hard the cliff is and how kobold B smells funny. The arrival of the Dracotaur supervisor finally gets them to work but still the hard cliff face and lack of tools dulls their achievements. By the end of the day they've cleared a measily 5 squares. (plus 1 from you)

Day 2
Firkraag
"YOU IDIOTS! A paralyzed GNOME could of dug farther than you did!" yells Firkraag in a fit of rage. "And you complain of heat? I will show you heat!" Firkraag takes a deep breath and breaths a cone of fire over the cowering kobolds. "Now get to work this time or I will eat one of you." He then points at one of the Dracotaurs "You follow me" Firkraag sends the Dracotaur to hire as many kobolds as he can today. Then Firkraag leaves the dungeon to find a nearby town where he buys 60 Miner's Picks. While in town he hires a changeling spy. Then he shows the changeling to the dungeon and visits a nearby graveyard and convinces a shadow to join him by offering it gold. He then goes back and spends 2 hours helping with the digging.
----------------------------------------------
OOC
Firkraag spends
Hours 1-2 Shopping (60 miner's picks)
Hours 3-5 Hiring a Changeling Spy from mm3
Hours 6-8 Hiring a shadow
Hours 9-10 Digging
Dracotaur 1 spends 10 hours hiring kobolds (Who go back to dig as hired)
12 kobolds dig 10 hours, the hired ones dig as they come. Everyone gets miner's picks.
The changeling spy goes and recruits 5 gnolls (he has 5 hours).
Dracotaur 2 supervises the kobolds.
Firkraag bought the 60 miner's tools for 300 gold. And hiring costs are 69 (max) upkeep is 13.8
Day 2's results
Firkraag: The Dracotaur manage to recruit another 28 kobolds. And armed with their picks they manage to scoure out 41 squares. It still seems like a weak effort but it's a major upgrade from yesterday. The changeling will show up with your gnolls in 10 hours. (removed hiring cost, but not upkeep from your gold)

Day 3
Firkraag
With a growl Firkraag decides he needs something to guard his minions while he works. He decides that he wouldn't mind some ornamentation either, so he decides to kill 2 gnomes with one stone. He goes to a local cemetary and finds to Gargoyles. After much haggling he finally brings them down to an agreeable price since he promises more gold and things to kill. Then after sending the gargoyles on their way he goes to a nearby pub and convinces a bard to tell stories of treasure somewhere in the mountains near Firkraag's Lair. He watches the bard's performance then goes back to his mountain stronghold to await any foolish enough to try to take his hoard.

My Dungeon: The Dungeon of Firkraag
So far I've dug rooms 1 and 2. I've also dug all of the halls except for 7.25 10 by 10 squares. I figure those will get done today.
Day 3's Results:
Action in dungeons: The cliff face fortress of Firkraag is the first to be besieged by pesky adventurers. A group of four men from a local town, armed with spells, wit, strength and divine intervention attempt to rid the world of the menace, and are nearly undone at the front door. The DR of the Gargoyles gives them trouble and their fighter is badly savaged before a lucky critical hit destroys one of them and a failed save vrs color spray looses the other. The party enters the winding set of hallways, cofused by the lack of actual rooms they are ambushed by the patrolling Dracotaur. Before they even know they are under attack the Dracotaur slams his spear into the back of their mage, badly wounding him. The mage stumbles away, trying to use his colorspray again, only to fail his concentration roll and receave another spear to the face killing him. The party leaps into avenge him but it takes 3 round for them to bring him down, and in that time, the fighter is also killed. Grasping their two friends bodies, the debate on weather to leave or not is cut short by the sound of a returning pack of gnolls. the thief and priest are already injured, and also plagued by bad luck they are unable to bring down even one of the creatures before secumbing.

4 level 3 Adventurers defeated. 300xp,
Treasure 1: +1 greataxe, 1: Ring of Protection +1, 1 Bracers of armor +1, 1 breastplate +1, 800 coin (total value 10,800)

Firkraag: your kobold manage to clear 100 squares. Normally yes you pay upkeep on monsters the turn they are hired (basically resulting in 3x price for the day) however, you don't pay upkeep to dead creatures, so no you don't pay the gargoyles upkeep.

Day 4
Firkraag the Destroyer
"Hmmph, these weaklings killed my minions?", a Firkraag who is secretely thrilled by the news of his homes first succesful defense asks in a mock rage. "Yes I witnessed them slay the Dracotaur with my own eyes" replies a slightly intimidated gnoll. "And you claim credit for the kill? Then you deserve a reward, I give you the fighter's axe. Use it or just keep it as a trophy. Now get out of my sight."The gnoll quickly leaves from Firkraag's presence, "Now you may come in changeling. I have a mission for you go and present this to the nearest town." The changeling quickly follows his master's commands. Later in the day a gnoll reports seeing a fire elemental approaching Firkraag's Lair. Firkraag goes to meet it alone, not fearing its flames in the least. Soon he convinces the fire elemental to join him. Then he gets the elemtental to lead him to another one of its kind. He hires them both and instructs them to guard the Outer Treasure Room. Then he goes and replaces the gargoyles who were slain with two more from the same cemetary.

Attatched to the bag is a note written in draconic "Fools if any more of your kind wants to feel the chill of my breath this is their destiny." (if this is advertising then charge me for 2 hours worth i guess)
Gnolls Patrol the dungeon, one of the gnolls is equipped with the greataxe+1.
Dungeon This is an updated map of the dungeon, if I need to buy doors and furnishings how would I go about estimating the price? Also note that I added a key to the top.
Firkraag's updated map
The Kobolds have dug out every room on the map and I have 14 squares left over. I use these to dig under room 10, I dig a 20 foot shaft down and then the kobolds branch off from there (but not digging under any of the dungeon yet). I will find a map to use for this soon.

Day 5
Firkraag the Destroyer
Firkraag awakes this day in a grand mood, that is until he learns that no more fools have tried to attack. He shrugs it off knowing that soon the town would organize an attack due to his present. With that comforting thought he leaves to hire more minions. Firstly he hires a shadow who guards the altar in the temple. Then he goes to find a wild displacer beast, and after many hours he finds one and convinces it to join him. It leaves for the dungeon while Firkraag goes to a nearby town (not the same one he sent the present to). He buys gold and jewels for his altar worth 1,000 gold. He also buys more lavish furnishings for his room and the rooms of his lieutenents (not sure how much this is but I'm willing to spend 2,000 total). Then he goes back to the dungeon and joins the digging for a bit.

Day 5's Results
Firkraag: 38 squares cleared. The fist of justice, a group of adventurers known for their brawn and endurance has singled out your dungeon for distruction. The four adventurers lack any sort of magical support as they enter into your dungeon. The pack of gnolls, flush from their previous victory rushes them as soon as they enter and is quickly cut down under a pair of greatswords, and some quick dagger work. Exploring carefully the warriors come across several empty rooms before entering the kobold warrens. There twenty off duty kobolds swarm the pc's with their sharp pointy sticks. Without any area of effect spells, the group is forced to cut down the kobolds individually. It takes time and when it is done, one of the rogues is dead and all the remaining members are bleeding heavily. They decide to retreat and take shelter in the nearby village but are intercepted by the displacer beast, who was drawn to the noise of the kobold skirmish. The two fighters give their lives trying to hold back the beast, while the final rogue flees to alert the townsfolk of what he has seen. 3 level 3's killed, 1 escaped. +300xp,+15reputation, 100 gold, potion of endure elements, potion of invisibily, Flaming greatsword +1.
Firkraag 21123 gold, 10 hours, reputation 51 upkeep 77
Dungeon News
Firkraag: Having seen the decimation of half their population, the kobolds want their lair moved deeper into the dungeon or some other measure to keep them safe.
Day 6
Firkraag
Firkraag growls in annoyance when he sees the gnolls and kobolds slaughtered. Then when the kobolds start yapping at him that they want a safer home he almost throttles one but controls his rage and just back hands him instead. He lets the kobolds move to the 2nd level's main room and gets all the bodies moved out of the dungeon. Then he goes and hires a gray ooze that eats metal. He strategically places it in the first room and warns all of his minions of it. He then and buys a fearsome abberation called a runehound that can spit acid. It should be right at home with the dracotuars since they can spit fire. Firkraag then goes and buys all of his minions better equipment. He also buys a strange mushroom that shrieks whenever it is put in the light. He positions this in one of the rooms leading to the treasure room. He then goes back to his dungeon anticipating another attack the next day.

Day 6's Results
Firkraag Why wont the adventurers leave you alone? Not that you mind the constant in-flux of gold, but a villian needs time to rest too. The cross bow wielding gargoyles met with mixed results. Firing a single time each round they were much slower in their damage and actually probably delt less damage than they would have on the ground, however the party, forced to rely on magical damage to injure them, used up a great number of their spells, both arcane and divine to bring them down. The grey ooze met with similar results, burning through a pair of primary weapons before secuming without dealing damage. Resources were exausted the adventurers were prime bait for the squad of Dracotaurs that advanced on them. Some vicious backstabs and acid arrows in triplicates managed to bring down two of the creatures, but the party was slaughtered to the man.
Firkraag the Destroyer
Firkraag awakes with a growl expecting more of his minions to have died while he was resting. He wasn't surprised to find that the ooze was dead, but the gargoyles came as a shock to him. Then he hears about the Dracotaurs and he justs shakes his head. He leaves early in the morning to find a pair of mated hydras and he lures them to his dungeon and puts them into the old kobold room. He doesn't expect much of them, just enough to hopefully kill any guests that may enter. Then he sets up a camoflauged pit trap to drop the unwary into a hole. The changeling spy meanwhile is recruiting dracotaurs to make up for the ones Firkraag lost.

Final Day's Results
Firkraag Firkraag awakes to a loud shout, for a
moment you fear another foolish kobold has set off the shrieker, but then you realize the sound his to low pitched for that, Running out of your room you hear the brawl going on in the room where you'd placed the two hydras. Coming nearby you peak around the corner to see over a score of humans, elves, dwarves and gnomes engaged in battle with your two hydras. One of the hydra snatches up a fighter crushing him in its jaws, while others snap down, breaking bones and leaving horrible wounds. The fighter work to keep the beasts at distance from the rogues and spellcasters that pound the beasts with barrages of bolts and missles. One of them falls immediately, The other roars in rage at the death of its mate, tearing appart another two fighters before secumbing under a brutal wave of firepower. Hearing the sounds his patrols coming to aid, Firkraag leaps forward blasting the tightly clustered rogues and wizards with a cone of fire, consuming six of them. 4 of them fail to get out of the way, two wizard dying and another wizard and rogue badly burned. Turning tail then Firkraag ducks away behind the 3 dracotaur, Runehound and displacer beast that charge into the melee. Firkraag flees back into his dungeon, not wanting to be nearby when the carnage ends. Waiting in his lair he hears screams, both human and inhuman, eventually there is a sharp bang on the door and 10 surviving adventurers step inside. Screaming a cry to their stupid patron gods, the heavyly armored ones charge at Firkraag who brandishs his sythe and leaps to meet them. Their weapons slam harmlessly off of his heavy hide as he slides between them. I quartet of magic missles slam into him and a lucky shot from a crossbow lodges itself in his thigh as he brings down his sythe splitting one mage from head to crotch. The surviving mage stumbles back, summoning protection while the half-dragon is again assaulted, another lucky bolt rips across his brow dropping blood into his eyes. Stepping forward Firkraag drops the other mage and sinks his teeth in the neck of one of the priests. Already bloody the man crumples, blood gushing from his jugular. The other priest screams in fury, judging from the resemblance, probably a brother. The man slams his mace down on Firkraag's face. Things start to fade from view as Firkraag grasps the man lifting him over his head and bringing him down on his knee shattering his back. Pain rips into his back and then everything goes black. (for pride value, you and your dungeon killed 10 level 4's 6 level 3's and 3 level 1's this round. that totals close to another 2000 xp. In terms of rolls, you did fairly well though you could have done better on the firebreath damage. only 15 there.)You were attacked by 24 total people.
