Pop’s been trying to corner the market for years, but it’s hard, you know? Always some new family trying to cut in on papa’s business. That’s how I ended up here. One of the old families, down in Murann, got the shove. They had to cut and run, but they were old hands, really knew their business. Anyway, pops and the Durainis went to the war. Very bad for business.</span></span></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman'"><span style="font-size: 12px">So the Durainis took us down. They had help from one of the Big Six, and ain’t no getting around that. Both my brothers floated up in the harbor. Ma, she’s out with uncle Cerrito out at the lake. Me? It’s bad business to kill a Waukeener, but sellin’ em out ain’t so bad, I guess.
