Sorry to hear your copy hasn't arrived yet! Mine only did last Monday, so I ran the game having only possessed it for about 5 days. Sarah and I, who have played with Nash before, were not particularly surprised, though we didn't know beforehand. I wasn't impressed, but I was able to downplay its impact and continue with the adventure. Jayden's definitely did - I used his unique thing (seeing magical auras) to drive a lot of exposition. And Watcher One's explains - though doesn't excuse - his actions. They made their own, mostly, aided by descriptions from me. Basically, I walked them through their previous life, and we created the backgrounds that way. So, Watcher One had first been employed by dragons to watch their eggs (Egg Sitter) and later became a Bounty Hunter. Jayden was first a Village Healer, then a Combat Medic, and then had a third (which linked into why he was an adventurer), but I must confess I can't remember exactly what it was now. Bray had the great background of "On the Run". I allowed that background to be used for a lot of perception checks... as I expected Bray would be properly paranoid! :) Not that much - they gained magic items based on those rolls at the beginning and during the session, but we really didn't have enough time to properly bring them to the fore. I'm very much leaning towards running it again in two weeks, and I'm hoping we get more role-playing in. (Not having to deal with character creation will give us an extra hour, which seems significant). Cheers!
