The first book released under Flaming Cobra is Secret Societies, by Silven Publishing, appearing in your local stores this week. However, we have many more lined up for you over the coming months - Crafty Games with their new Spycraft line, Eternity Publishing with the Immortals Handbook line, WildFire with Cthulhutech, and many more!

Secret Societies
Every campaign setting has its cults, conspiracies, and secret societies. Find out what´s worked for them in the real world and what´s brought them down. Titans of conspiracy theory like the Freemasons, Knights Templar, and the Assassins rub shoulders with game-perfect organizations like Mossad, Aum Shinrikyo, and the Thule Society. Each of them is fully detailed, ready to serve as a source of inspiration or drop straight into your weekly game. There is also advice on getting the most impact and realism out of your secret societies, examples of societies in different genres of d20 play, plot hooks to bring your PCs into the action, prestige classes, and details on other societies from our world for whenever you need something a little extra for tonight´s game. Why let your next secret society fall lifeless when the real world has already done the work for you?

Secret Societies features:

* Information on how to use secret societies in your game
* 6 popular real world secret societies detailed in depth and each examined from a fantasy, modern and futuristic perspective
* d20 stats and rules to introduce those 6 societies into your games
* 6 prestige classes
* A broad examination of secret societies at large by looking briefly at over 25 such societies
* A complete breakdown of creating your own secret societies in your game

Secret Societies is priced at $24.95. You can find more information on this book and others in the Flaming Cobra line at;

D20 Fantasy.

Actually, I have the PDF version, and I would have to say it is indeed for both d20 Fantasy and d20 Modern. I mean, there are writeups for MK-Ultra and Majestic-12. :)

Unless of course major changes were made for the print edition...

The Thule Occult society is also based in Modern times.

I believe that Hitler was supposed to have been apart of this organization to some extent. Maybe that's just from Hellboy though. :)

In any case... a very "modern" organization.

"6 popular real world secret societies detailed in depth and each examined from a fantasy, modern and futuristic perspective."

Actually that says it all.

It would be interesting to see how Majestic 12 was handled in a "fantasy" perspective....

M.I.B Dopplegangers anyone?
:)

Majestic 12 is also handled quite nicely in Spycraft: Conspiracies (Paradigm Concepts/Crafty Games). Be interesting to see how the two are handled differently.

Well, I think it's a bit confusing. d20 "Fantasy" can be either D&D or d20 Modern with FX (ie, Urban Arcana).

Heck, even modern d20 can be D&D with rules tweaked for modern day (like Hogsheads or Pinnacles old stuff) or d20 Modern. Though I realize in press releases, they can't say directly due to legal restrictions.

Very Good Point Trancejeremy.

The lines can definately blur. I haven't seen the PDF, but I have heard it's a great resource. I hope it does well with Flaming Cobra.

Thule Society

According to Ken Hite (Suppressed Transmisison: The First Broadcast page 80) the Thule Society was a German occultic society dedicated to studying the occult arts, with an emphasis on racial purity, the Aryans, and the Germanic Drang Nach Osten ideal.

It all started as a radical volkisch (people's action) party known as the Germandenorden. As a cover the Thule Gesellschaft was formed, an academic group dedicated to studying the occult from a German perspective. To boost membership in the gesellschaft a worker's auxiliary, The National Socialist German Workers Party, was formed.

In 1921 Wehrmacht intelligence assigned one Sgt. Adolf Hitler to investigate the National Socialists. He spent a few weeks undercover, then tendered his resignation from the Wehrmacht and engineered the take over of the group, with the assistance of people such as Marshal Ludendorf.

BTW, people like Heinrich Himmler and Josef Goebbels came to the Nazi Party when another radical group headed by World War One fighter ace Hermann Goring agreed to merge with the Nazis.
