Sykes intentionally bites the inside of his mouth, and the sudden searing pain and the coppery wash of blood bring him to his senses, at least, for the moment. "Speid!" "Does this chain connect to a well? Could climbing it help us ascend to the town above? Answer quickly! If there is no hope for us reaching the surface this way, we may be better served to cut the chain (*Sykes eyes the sharp claymore meaningfully*) and prevent whatever is being hoisted up from below from reaching us!" [sblock] Total aside here, but I just have to heartily recommend the CoC PC game that came out a short while ago, Dark Corners of the Earth. Excellent effort in the genre, and Headfirst did a brilliant job of capturing the feel of Lovecraft's work. I just finished it tonight, and though it can be difficult at times, it is difficult in a good way that most games released these days avoid for fear of offending those who prefer the path of least resistance in everything. If you can get by a couple of technical issues (couple crashes for me, and an upgrade of my drivers, not a big deal) it is worth picking up. One more aside: I have been compiling notes on the three Call of Cthulhu scenario ideas I had intended to run for a sequel to KL's game and if everyone is still interested, I'd just like to do a straw poll to see what everyone would prefer to play. Unfortunately, we've lost the original scenario synopsis post in the OOC forum, so I will repeat them here, bare bones: 1. Civil War Era, in the deep south (Rookseye's Scenario) 2. WWI, "No Man's Land" (Chaosium module) 3. WWII, OSS operation in the Aleutian Island Campaign (Rookseye's Scenario) [/sblock]
