Flu-ish question

Mmmmm, I am a little concerned for you, this is your second post in about the same amount of time of illness. I think you may be eatting something that that has not been cooked right or has passed its date.

It is possible. I am a microbiolgist and used to work in the area of food microbiology. It is very true that what most people call a "24-hour flu" is very often mild food poisoning. The one thing that does not quite match up with most food poisoning cases is the sore throat.

I have heard of a 24 hr flu before from my doctor. From what I understand the 24 hr flu is akin to a bad cold with high fever and vomitting pretty much constantly for 24 hrs. My 4 yr old had it about a year ago. But I dont think its what you have.

I actually am getting over what I think is a bacterial stomach flu. Not fun, and its not really somthign I want to go in to details about but I am extreamly fatiuged by it which is not a symptom... I am hoping the fatiuge is just me being dehydrated from the flu. We will see, i go back to work tonight. Hopefully you will feel better Ranger...

The sore throat can be explained by acid reflux.

Nope, it was a cold. The first symptom to manifest was a sore throat. I recall it distinctly because I went out to eat at this place I'd never been before, and I sensed a sore throat as I ate.

On a related note, I love placebos and folk remedies. Did you know that if you sleep on your left side when you have an upset stomach, it will heal faster? Or that cherry juice lessens the pain of a sore throat? Or that breasts cure head aches?

Of course, only the third one is true. The other two are just intended to make you think that you're getting better.

My mother always said that difference between a cold and flu is that you get a fever with flu.

According to this more detailled explanation, she was kinda right!

And, yes, never underestimate the British nation's ability to completely deny that they're dying of tuberculosis whilst dragging themselves into work. ("It's only a flesh wound" etc.)
