Flying On A Moving Ship?

Thanks for the replies. It looks like I was making the physics more complicated than I needed to.

I am guessing that the same general physics would apply to the two medium sized flying races. One is humaoid avian and the other humanoid draconic.

The campaign is going to spend significant time at sea. The technology of the ships will either be 12th century or 14th century, depending on where they are in the campaign world. (There are Norse style longboats as well, but those are generally only sailed by the orcs.)

Other than oddities like a strong cross-wind as the ship turns, is there anything significant enough to effect the flying of any of these races while on a sailing ship? Assuming they have a manueverability rating of at least Average, should they basically be able to fly around on the deck of ships freely? (Barring running into the rigging.)

Would it be fair to assume that if two ships pass each other going basically opposite directions, a flyer can safely move from one to the other, and just adjust their speed before landing on the second ship? (It seems like at least one of the ships would be going slowly, as they can't both be using the wind if they're going opposite directions.)
