Starter Set #1, Foliage, is the first expansion for the Dungeon Stamp series. This is a set of three stamps, two normal sized ones, and one larger sized one, which is meant for use on a battle mat. This set also includes a new inkpad and a new ink color, green.
The stamps included here are bush, large evergreen and small oak. To be honest, I can’t tell the difference between the oak and the bush, nor with the original tree that came with the limited edition set.
Part of the problem with this expansion set is the price. I say this because the original limited edition set comes with ten stamps, a case, ink, and a pad. It runs for just under $40 bones, or if you get the one with the ink stained case, just a little over twenty. Sure, it’s neat to have the large evergreen as it’s a bigger stamp, but I don’t know if the cost on the retail side, is justified. Online it’s not too bad, but your options from the e-bay store, http://stores.ebay.com/Green-Dragon-Studio , are limited. For example, if you want just the one case, it looks like you’re out of luck as they only have mixed deals. This is another part of the problem. Their site doesn’t list a m.s.r.p. I understand that they sell through e-bay, but if you happen to encounter the site and wonder how much it costs at your local store, having a m.s.r.p. is a good thing.
Outside of that, the stamps perform as expected. The stamps are easy to use. Just spread the green ink onto the pad, press the stamp firmly onto the ink, and press it to the mat. I wouldn’t mind seeing the images being a little closer to all the edges or having a guide for proper placement when stamping, but that’s a minor issue. The benefit here is that you now have another ink color and can use it with the original tree.
In terms of cleanup, simple paper towel and some water suffices.
This set is great for outdoor encounters, but it’s overall utility would’ve been increased by making the set larger with some other terrain like rubble or stones.
