Hey now! Not every time. :) Texas has a great program. Although I was disappointed to see Major's football career get sidelined for a much IMHO inferior and overrated QB. A few years back some DJ's on a local radio morning show would call him up from time to time and just b.s. with the guy. He was just cool. Too bad.

"Huskers and running up the score"

Come.
On.
What are they supposed to do? Run the ball to the one yard line, not score and give the ball to the other team? Yeth, letth only win by fifteen pointh tho we don't hurt the other teamth feelingth. Puh-leeze! :p <---tongue in cheek.

I will admit that there are some Husker fans (the best fans in the country) out there that enjoy a comfortable lead but as to demoralizing the opposition:

Now thanks to the horrible recruiting of the now defunct Solich era, the days of "running up the score" are over for a time, maybe for all time. But here's how it is; when you have a team that has 3rd stringers that are every bit as good as the first stringers there's not much any overrated and/or inferior team's defense could do to stop them. Not many teams’ first stringers could stop them. Many coaches would look at Nebraska’s depth chart and just shake their heads. Nobody could be them and the Osborne era had this, every year consistently up until the day he retired. They weren’t running up the score, they were just a freaking awesome powerhouse.

I look forward to any and all kind rebuts.

In the osborne days, Nebraska was a powerhouse. I don't see how many could argue that, that's why the Cornhuskers won the National Championships and were always so highly rated.

Running up the scopre has always been a wierd topic in college football. One needs to look more at how long the starters stay in then the final score to really know if it was run up. If your team cannot stop the third string offense of the other team, well don't blame the other team. Its not fair for a coach to put in the third stringers, guys who work just as hard as everyone else, and tell them "don't score". That goes against what football players are taught, to always try their hardest. Now, the coach can call plays that are less likely to score and that milk the clock, otherwise not much can be expected.

Why is running up the score even an issue? In no other sport does anyone complain about it, at least not that I'm aware of.

If you don't want tje other team scoring on you like mad, don't suck so much or accept that they're just better than you.

Actually, the other sports complain about it as well. Basketball is actually the sport I hear about it most.

[chokes on drink]What?! Okay, maybe better than K-State fans... You should have seen the look of complete and utter shock in Columbia, MO, last Fall when the Huskers took a beatdown from the Tigers. I distinctly remembered how, in the men's room and in the stands how smug all of the Husker fans were during the game--even until the end of the third quarter. When Missouri pulled way ahead, the NU fans dejectedly left midway through the 4th. Best fans, indeed. :p

Although I am a huge MU fan I do take our fans to task sometimes. Still, it is hard work being a MU football fan after years and years of mediocrity. :)

I would have to say that my visit to Oklahoma University last Fall was very pleasant. Their fans are cordial and gracious in winning, at least (I am sure any Texas fan may have something to add to this...).

I don't know if I would blame Solich. Parity across the NCAA and especially in the Big 12 is showing its not so ugly head. I really couldn't believe that Solich got fired. I mean, sheesh. NU went 10-3 (5-3) and only lost to Shadowdancer's Texas, my MU, and the despicable Wildcats.

As far as running up scores? NU is nothing. Go talk to the coaching staff at K-State and OU about running up scores.

By the way, anyone see this preseason's rankings yet?

Really, I can't remember any case where a player or coach got made at the other team for spanking them. I do remember a bit of an uproar from the talking heads when some girls HS team beat another by upwards of a hundred.

I definitely don't recall any complaints about it in the NHL or from what little I glean fron Sportscenter about baseball. Football, however I hear it all the time.

You're right, you don't hear it theat much in Hockey or Baseball. That's why I said basketball. And even in basketball and football, you rarely hear about it in the pros.

But on the college level, I do hear about it and even more in the high school and other games. In these leagues the parity of the pros is almost non existant.

I was not shocked at all that NU lost to MU, but that was a bad day for everyone, players and fans alike. Solich going was no shock, the season record really had nothing to do with it. It's all about recruiting, which was going downhill and his lack of leadership, and control over his players. That's all purely speculation of course, but has to account for something, else his last season's record would have kept him his job.
