This news article describes a new theory of consciousness. Actually, there is nothing new about it: mystics have been subjectively describing this since ancient times. The part that is new, a Swedish physicist is calling on other physicists to begin seriously addressing what, exactly, consciousness is. In physics, scientists describe the energies relating to the fundamental forces that the universe is made out of - such as electromagnetic radiation - as the vibrational waves in some kind of fundamental field. She proposes, this fundamental field and consciousness are the same thing. In other words, light is a vibration of cosmic consciousness. Consciousness preexists the universe. A brain doesnt produce consciousness. The brain entangles a preexistent cosmic consciousness. At death, a persons consciousness returns to the fundamental field. All conscious persons are participating in this same fundamental field of consciousness. Maria Strømme a physicist of nanotechnology at Uppsala University suggests possibly - and scientifically testably - conscious persons may be transmitting information to each other via this field, across separate spaces even separate times. The information is perceived during "atypical" access to the shared fundamental field, when typical engagement breaks down, such as during near death experiences, deep meditation, synchronized emotional attunement, and so on. This model that identifies consciousness and the fundamental field of energy particle-waves as the same thing, allows for a theory of magic that includes remote presence across spacetime, psychic prescience, telepathy, and (beyond the scope of the article) teleportation, telekinesis, and so on. This "theory of consciousness" is really a protoscientific speculation, toward the construction of future testable hypotheses. But for our purposes here, this model is exactly what the D&D psionic power source is. The D&D "soul" of a Humanoid is a Material body that is entangling in a shared transcendent consciousness. Additionally there are levels in between, including the Ethereal mind that speaks, and the Astral language that is spoken. This transcendent consciousness and the Positive Energy Plane appear to be the same thing. The energy is vibrations of consciousness.
