I am currently running my Scarred Lands game out of the Phylacteric Vault in the fair lands of Darakeene. My PC's include an aspiring planar geographer, a paladin of the Silver Order, a cleric of Madriel, a Darakeene-bred warrior, and a half-orc rogue/psychic warrior (thanks to the Slacerian virus). The characters act as an adventuring company working on behalf of the Vault (each with their own reason for doing so). Right now the players are doing some preliminary investigations into a few abandoned Slacerian ruins for the Vault, but there's a lot cooking on the side. The cleric of Madriel has been suffering from disturbing dreams that the oneiromancers are studying, the paladin is using the mage to find out what the Curators are up to, the fighter is secretly being bred as the successor to Vode Nulan's blades, and the half-orc is coming to terms with his new-found powers (while suffering through an endless stream of questioning by the Phylacteric Scholars). Plus, the western seaboard is being wracked with storms that have sailors whispering about the return of Lethene and somewhere in the astral plane, Mesos is stirring back to life. Ooooooo. Of course, this is all a ways down the road and I've got a lot of middle-ground planned. Oh, and no, my players don't even know that this message board exists. I love the setting of the Phylacteric Vault if only because you can work so much within it. Think Tar Valon, the White Tower, and Aes Sedai. All sorts of intrigue to cultivate. Plus, without any definitive word from SSS, the Vault is my own personal playground with which to tinker with the bizarre and mysterious. Not to mention the political intrigue that is Darakeene itself. If you're familiar with Robert Jordan, think of the Great Game. Darakeene's also got a good geographical location; Albadia's right to the north, you've got a nice cluster of islands off-shore, and if you really want, you can hoof it down to Hollowfaust and the Hornsaw. All in all, I think I've struck upon a golden setting for my SL game. Gaius
