Forging an adamantine item. A Mundane, Alchemical or Magical Process?

How difficult would it be to forge an adamantine (or mithral) item?

I don't know what processes are involved in forging an iron item or a steel item (although if someone could answer this, too, it would be much appreciated), but what I do know is that these processes are "mundane."

Adamantine is an ultra-hard, mythical metal, so do you need alchemical or magical techniques to forge it?

Adamantine and Mithral are consistently listed as nonmagical in the DMG descriptions.

Although they may be restricted on an individual campaign basis they don't have any game rules limiting their availability, crafting, or 'mythological' status beyond the town wealth limits. The crafting rules treat them as the same DC as masterwork to craft which is mundane.

It could require Alchemy, magic, or some rare quest for materials but that would be beyond the scope of the written descriptions. Whatever the processes involved, the end cost is fair as written.

Alchemical silver would a be prime candidate for some involvement from an alchemist.
