Forgotten Realms question concerning Shadow Weave Magic

Has anyone out there made up any rules for the effects of mixing Weave magic and Shadow Weave magic? In the Return of the Archwizards novels, the mixing of the two magics is very messy, but there are no rules whatsoever in the Forgotten Realms game books. Has anyone written anything to duplicate these occurrances, or know where I can find anything like that? Any suggestions for writing my own?

I have a elven mage who is a follower of Oghma. i plan to have this character eventually use the shadow weave, in his neverending search for knowledge. He wants to learn how the Shadow weave works, and what better way, than to use it.

I have been tempted to play a mage who uses the Shadow Weave. Not because I think it is anything special, just to be different. I am interested to see how it plays out over the long run. The shadow weave caster needs to use several feats to get full benefit.

So you want to play with Shadow Weave?
Good! It's very interesting and funny in the same time.

My previous PC was a Wiz5/Sha10/Acm1 (Wizard/ShadowAdept/ArchMage).
My personal experience is so and so. Now what does this mean? Well, although its neat to be able to do magic in places other cannot, you attract too much attention by followers of the Weave (Mystrans, etc...). Shadow Weave is considered an evil thing, for bad guys etc. What's how I have it in my mind. Also, if you are a Shadow Weave user you cannot cast spells using the Weave in any way. So it's a one-way path. You have to choose wise.

Now regarding ROLLplaying ... well if you read the feats in the FRCS ... you go a bit crazy with the +1 caster level, -1 caster level, add +x to DC etc ... I had to make an Excell spreadsheet to keep up. It surely is a hell but when you are able to understand what's going on, you'll like it. With some fine tuning I had a level 8 spell base DC=23. Then add the spell focus, spell power, shadow weave magic feat etc... DC=29. Now that's a VERY good DC ... anyway ....

Hope I helped,

Gee, that sound familiar...

Mine was a Sorc 6/Sha 9/Acm 5. :)

True. Very true. I avoided the whole problem by making my character a total enchantment, illusion, and necromancy caster, with only a couple of other spells to meet the ArchMage requirements.

If you stick to those three schools, it makes things a LOT easier. (It's easy to do with a sorcerer, would be tough with a wizard!)

I had a lot of fun with illusions, used all the necromancy spells I could find other than the "Create Undead" spells -- personal aversion of the character for RP purposes -- and used a LOT of enchantment spells.

I think the DM was ready to strangle me by the end of the campaign when he would keep trotting out super-powerful mages and I would keep using Mind Fog, Enervation/Energy Drain, and Feeblemind... ;)
