D&D General Forgotten Realms question

Mercurius

Legend
Two, really:

One, does anyone know what Toril looks like beyond Faerun, in Ed Greenwood's campaign? According to his original map, at least from what I can tell, the Faerun of the gray box--and pretty much the FRCS--is Greenwood's Faerun, with only minor exceptions (e.g. you can see the Moonshaes taped on). But what about beyond Faerun? Has Ed said anything? I read somewhere that he hadn't really mapped beyond the Sword Coast, Heart Lands, Dale Lands etc, until they were putting together the gray box, but I'm wondering what he had (or has) in mind for off the map.

Two, does anyone know if--or to what degree--Ed incorporated TSR and WotC changes to the Forgotten Realms into his own home campaign? (Not sure if he still DMs, or not).

As far as I can remember his two early home campaigns which were the areas he detailed heavily were Waterdeep and The Dalelands; with the players being members of the Company of Crazed Venturers and the Knights of Myth Drannor respectively. I always got the feeling that everything else was somewhat window dressing that may have been roughly thought out/detailed so he could answer that the questions players threw at him. Although the book Ed Greenwood Presents Elminster's Forgotten Realms: A Dungeons & Dragons Supplement probabky has some insight into things. Pretty sure I read that his home game is limited and sporadic at best and probably has been since he sold the Realms and started writing sourcebooks and novels professionally due to time constraints. Take all this with a grain of salt, I could be wrong,

Yes, that is all what I've heard. I skimmed a recent (2015) interview in which he said his group still plays, but sometimes with gaps of years.

The 3e Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting does have a "world map" of Toril. Except for Faerun / Kara-Tur / Zakhara and Maztica, the continents are marked as "Unknown Lands". The placement (but not size or shape) is reminiscent of the IRL continents.
I speculate that Ed has not really done anything with or thought much about the rest of the world.
