You JUST found out about this?

I agree, though, that it'll probably suck. Fireworks doesn't exactly have the greatest track record. Though the pilot may be good, as it's being written by R.A. Salvatore.

::sigh::

Darn Sci-fi Wire. Salvatore is *not* writing the pilot. He's writing the "format" for the show. I'm not quite sure what a format means in TV-speak, but I'm pretty sure that it's not the same thing as a pilot. See http://www.rasalvatore.com/ for the full press release.

He's writing the format, huh?

Bet you $20 that Fireworks ditches it soon after.

And Grendel, I don't know if he's a good writer, but I've literally seen at least HUNDREDS of fans on message boards who swear by his greatness. And I doubt Drizzt Do'Urden would be anywhere near as popular as he is, now, if the writer who created him were a poor one. I'll know soon enough, though, as I recently ordered 15 of his books from a book club (10 Drizzt Do'Urden books, and the "The Cleric Quintet" making up the other five).

Thanks for the recommendation. :) BTW, this is what I ordered:

The Icewind Dale Trilogy
The Dark Elf Trilogy
The Legacy of the Drow
The Cleric Quintet
The Hobbit
The Lord of the Rings

They've already shipped so I expect them any day, now. I'm also gonna order some more books under another name. Specifically:

Elminster in Myth Drannor
Elminster In Hell
The Silent Blade *
The Spine of the World *
Servant of the Shard *
Sea of Swords *

* Some more R.A. Salvatore books.

Edit: I decided to make my second order on-line with another e-mail address rather than send in the little card, and changed my order to the above. Might as well go all out on Drizzt. Also decided on another Elminster book for the hell of it.

read the drizzt books in the order they were written, i can't see anyone really caring particularly about the events of the dark elf trillogy before reading the icewind dale trillogy. second time through go in story chronological but the first time read them in the order they were published, can't stress that enough.

be warned before hand, he describes the characters in depth in each book and runs over their backstory, that get's a little old after 7 or 8 books.

Servant of the shard, got to be one of my all time favorite books!

Jarlaxle rocks! But you'll get to him later. If you can find it, I strongly recommend Salvators spearwielders tale. The first books of his i ever read, they are great, i've read the series multiple times.

On topic. I really do think with salvatore doing the series setup it vastly improves the chances of this show being worth while. I just hope the suits don't decide to disregard his input.

Trust me, the suits will ALWAYS find a way to screw it up. *coughandromedacough*

And thanks for the advice, Jolly Ninja. From what I've heard from you and others, I think it's safe to say that I will read them in order of publishing, and not chronological.
