While waiting a few weeks for some extra hardware to arrive, I have spent some time fooling around with the various Stylistic 1200 display drivers offered for free download online. Almost none of them re-create the factory display options in Win98. For example, screen rotation to allow portrait viewing (a pretty essential featuyre for my project) is absent. Several Google searches will turn up support sites claiming that this feature and others are not supported in Win98. These sites are incorrect. The vast majority of tech support sites that I found identify the Stylistic 1200 display as a standard NeoMagic 120 setup. These sites are incorrect. While it is true that the Stylisitc 1200 display is manufactured by NeoMagic, it is not a standard model — it is unique to the Stylistic 1200 and, as a result, requires special drivers. Drivers that do things like support screen rotation in Win98. You can download a RAR file containing the manufacturer's original pre-loaded drivers and CAB files here. You will want to download this archive to your PC and extract it. You will need the folders therein (INF and CABS, respectively) when it comes time to configure your Stylistic 1200 in Win98 (or whatever OS you have decided on). Also, I had some time to fool around with linux distros and Stylistic hardware detection. The most agreeable distro that I tested was Puppy Linux, which you can find here. It loaded from the HDD without hanging (something that DSL would not do), though I found that getting it to recognize most all of the hardware would be a long process of wrapping 30-some odd Windows drivers. Unless you really like Linux and have some free time, I'd stick with Win98 if I were you. When I get a chance, I'll post the step by step guide to installing and configuring the OS here.
