I don't like the fact that not only will we have to pay a subscription cost that they are also talking about having to buy virtual minatures. Especially since they would only last as long as we keep our subscriptions.

Actually, if you unsubscribe, and then subscribe back later, you will still have all the v-minis you bought while subscribed.

Besides, I have a hard time feeling sympathy for someone who wants to get some sort of value added product for free. It's not like the v-minis are required.

I don't think that's the problem. The problem is that people don't think the v-minis are value-added products. And I agree with them.

Well for us who feel that they don't add any value, it's kind of perfect that they charge extra for them. Then we can feel certain that we're not paying for something we don't want.

Those who think that they add value will probably be more ready to pay. And if not enough people are interested in paying extra, my guess is that the product line would die out.

In other words: I don't see a problem.

The claim is that they will charge for additional v-minis because the cost is not factored into the subscription cost. Personally, I find that ludicrous. I think WotC needs to find a way to provide these minis for free to all subscribers. Same goes for additional dungeon tiles and whatnot.

Maybe they should put ads in the Dungeon and Dragon PDFs to help offset any of this perceived additional cost on their part. Would that be so awful? The print mags had loads of ads, and people didn't seem to mind that much.

The problem then is you start cutting into your physical DDM sales.

They want the virtual tabletop and DDI to be attractive, but not so attractive that it cuts out their physical booster pack sales.

Well, if the v-minis aren't value-added products to you, then you won't miss them. Why would you care if they were free or cost mad money? If you are truly upset that v-minis are gonna cost more so you can't/won't use them, then they are value-added products to you.
