Fox's Cunning Question

First Post
Hey, quick question about Fox's Cunning (I believe its from Tomb and Blood). My DM let me have this spell, but I think it might be a bit overpowered.

Basically, the spell gives you 1d4+1 pts to add to Intelligence (much like a potion of intelligence) and it lasts for an hour a level.

So if I cast this spell on my 8th level Wizard, and his intelligence goes from let's say 20 to 24.

So does this mean that for the next 8 hours he now gets:

+2 to the DC of all his spells
An extra 2nd and 3rd level spell (if he takes the time (roughly 15 minutes) to memorize these bonus spells)
+2 to Spellcraft checks
+2 to all other intelligence-based skill checks

That seems pretty hefty for a 2nd level spell. Has anyone used this spell and have any problems with it? I guess since it's the same as a potion of intelligence (which only has a caster level of 4th and a market price of only 300 gp), it can't be that unbalanced, can it?

PS Hey, this was post #70,000 for the rules thread. Do I win anything for that?:D

Save DCs and skill checks. That's it.

Is that in the spell description? I don't have T&B ...

Would that also be true for a Potion of Intelligence? Nothing in the DMG about it being only Save DCs and skill checks.

Yes, page 90. It specifically says that wizards do not gain any extra spells by using this spell.

Although it is not written in the DMG, I would say the potion does the same thing as the spell because they both do the same thing, add a 1d4+1 enhancement bonus to Int.

If it would result in bonus spell slots, the spell would be a no-brainer: You cast a 2nd-level spell, you (usually) get another 2nd-level spell slot (or even a higher one). So you would always use the spell.

w/o metamagic the spell is okay. However a Sorcerer casting a double-empowered Eagle's Splendor (6th level) can do so multiple times. If you roll a 5 that's +10 enhancement to your Charisma baby. Woo hoo!

Empower it in multiples for some creamy DC goodness, better than any headband at high levels. Throw in one of those PrCs that grant Improved Metamagic before epic levels, a meta magic rod of empower and you've got an overwhelming DC

Archmage, pfft :D

Oops 2 mins too late
