FR: Bane Timeline?

Taloras

First Post
I was just wondering something. Does ANYONE know when Bane, Bhaal, and Myrkul took over from Jergal? As in, a date? Its not listed in the FRCS or F&P. The reason im asking is for a campaign im working on...set on the small continent/large island set directly west of Maztica....im wanting to have some old Netherese have escaped there. Only thing is, im wondering if that was before Bane, or not, as it only mentiones Bane ruling for a few thousand years...

If you go to the thread linked in my sig, you can find a site with a FR timeline. While I do not agree entirely with the reconstructed timeline, it is useful.

Im not sure how accurate this is, but in Shadows of Undrentide, they purport that some ancient Netherese worshipped Jergal just about around the time the empire fell apart.

Im not sure if this helps or not.

Cheers

There is no canon answer to your question... unfortunately. As you know, Jergal was worshipped in Netheril in his own right so the appearance of Bane, Myrkul and Bhaal must have come after Netheril's fall.

I would suggest that they arose from Netheril's survivor states and gained their power after discovering Netherese rituals and lore in the ruins of the empire, say, within 100 years of Netheril's fall.

Also, perhaps Jergal grew tired of his tripartite role as a result of the death of so many of his worshippers in Netheril's falls... followed by a constant stream of complaints from the survivors.

Cheers

To my astonishment, and disappointment, the first REMOTE mention of Bane was in 710 DR, and that was just an entry for Xvim. Hopefully Sean K. Reynolds is lurking on the boards and can answer a couple questions for his loyal followers. Ya never know, we can always wish.

Its not -that- important, i was just curious....as it only mentions centuries in the bane description (saying how long hes had to get used to being immortal or something like that, cant remember exactly)....

If you can find the 'Faiths and Avatars' book released shortly before the Players Option stuff (I think), it may have what you're looking for.

This isn't much help but it tells how Jergal split his portfolios. Jergal offered three humans (Bane, Bhaal and Myrkul) godhood but warned them it wouldn't be as easy as they thought. Each threw lots to decide his portfolio, each trying to oneup each other. The order they won was Myrkul, Bhaal then Bane.

Myrkul chose Death since everyone would eventually come to him thus he would be the most powerful. Bhaal chose Murder since he would control when people would die. Bane trumped both of them by taking over Tyranny since it was his whim that would decide when people would murder. Jergal remained a god serving the god of death, whether it be Myrkul, Cyric or Kelemvor.
