[FR] Help on placing Ptolus

First Post
Hi,

I am planning on running the Malhavoc Press module Banewarrens in my Forgotten Realm's Campaign, and I am looking for suggestions as to where I could place the city of Ptolus or a FR city I could use instead.

Ptolus is a coastal city, on a bay, built on a series of tiered cliffs. The highest level is the noble quarter and at the botton of the cliffs is the docks. It is in the shadow of a huge spire rock formation. It is a city of 30,000 and is built over an old dwarven city (although this isn't necessary to the module). It could easily be part of any non-evil empire or an even an independent city.

BTW the module certainly deserved its Ennie!

Personally, I wouldn't use Ptolus. I'd either use Waterdeep with the banewarrens filtering down into Undermountain, or I'd use a place like Westgate.

It's your Realms. Just place it anywhere you want. Maybe on the sword coast, near Trollbark forest, halfway between Baldur's Gate and Waterdeep.

I'm using the adevnture, but rather than one city, I've taken the various city elements and spread them across multiple towns/cities.

Rather than use the spire, I turned the entire thing on its head and have it burrowing down into the ground in an unpopulated area.

It requires a slight tweaking of the plot hooks and a little travel time on the PCs part, but otherwise seems to be working fine.

Halruaa.

The land is not well detailed (only the 1E or 2E book, The Shining South, plus three Elaine Cunningham novels) but it is a very, very magical place. The Inverted Pyramid seems perfectly suited to Halruaa; the church of Lothian could easily be replaced by that of Azuth.

Also, the Spire could be covered by a colossal illusion... which has been pierced or dispelled and now everyone is wondering what has happened.

Cheers
D
