FR novel box set?

I recently saw a box set of 4 FR novels, sealed in shrink wrap. I can't remember the titles (except one was "Spine of the World" or something like that). Are these the iconic Drizzt novels that started the whole chain? If not, what are the core novels that tell Drizzt's tale? I'm not really interested in all the ones that followed ($ cha-ching, cha-ching $), just the originators.

Icewind Dale Trilogy first featured Drizzt. At that time he was one of the main characters but not necessarily the star.

Then the Dark Elf Trilogy came out. The Dark Elf trilogy is a prequel series that follows Drizzt's life before the events of Icewind Dale. In my opinion, the Dark Elf trilogy really is what fleshed Drizzt out as a character. Although the Icewind Dale Trilogy is where he first appears and gained popularity among Realms fans.

After Dark Elf, there is the Legacy of the Drow series (fours books).

Then the Paths of Darkness series. Which I haven't read but am meaning to.

And then the current Hunter's Blades series. Which I haven't read either.

Spine of the World is a book in the Paths of Darkness series.

If you are just interested in Drizzt, I recommend the Dark Elf trilogy. It stands alone from the others and is an interesting read.

Otherwise, I would start with Icewind Dale so you can learn who all the characters are. The thing about Icewind Dale is it is Salvatore's first major series so the writing is not quite as polished as his later books.

If you're only interested in the originals, then you should look for The Icewind Dale Trilogy, which is made up of three novels: The Crystal Shard, Streams of Silver, and the Halfling's Gem.

I've read every single one of Salvatore's Drizzt novels so far. Some are very good, some are not-so-good, but on a whole they've been very enjoyable tales of adventure.
