[FR] novel set in Bloodstone Lands?

Hi,

I think R A Salvatore has written a novel set in Vaasa and Damara which features Zhengyi the Witch King. Has anyone here read it? I know it's part of a series but do I need to read the first book? Does it reveal any interesting or useful stuff about what's happened in that part of the Realms from an RPG campaign point of view?

Thanks!

That's Promise of the Witch-King, and in regards to Zhengyi (spoiler tags on!):
Zhengyi isn't in the novel. Rather, he's left behind some items that grant the user power over dead creatures of the appropriate race - e.g. a human skull to let someone animate dead humans.

In regards to what it reveals about Vaasa and Damara...there may be some interesting tidbits in there, and in the next book Road of the Patriarch, but I found them to be few and far between.

Hmmm, so not recommended then? Does this tie in to Dragons of Faerun in some way? There was some Bloodstone Lands stuff in there that I didn't understand.

Cheers

The Bloodstone Lands stuff in DoF was in regards to the events of the old H series of modules. However some of the DoF stuff is a bit awkward because it claims Gareth Dragonsbane shattered the actual wand of Orcus at the time, which is rather problematic because the wand was around in a very not shattered state following Orcus's death at the hands of Kiaransalee and his subsequent period as Tenebrous and finally his return to full archfiend status in the events of Dead Gods.

And for the record, regarding the novel, I got about forty pages into Promise of the Witch King before getting preoccupied on other things, and haven't gone back to it yet. It wasn't bad however, and I do plan on finishing it eventually.
