FR: Shades?

Wraithdrit

First Post
Hey all,

I don't have my Races of Faerun book handy, and am working with a player to create a new character. Was wondering if someone could post the basics of what shades get in RoF.

Thanks,
Wraith

Considered outsider type.
Must be nongood alignment.
Have the following powers when within shadows or darkness (recommend dropping this rediculous concept if you like the novels).
+2 Con and Cha
Speed: +20 ft. (or 15 if medium or heavy armor)
AC: +4 deflection
Attacks and Damage: +2 competence bonus on attack and damage
Saves: +4 luck bonus on all saves
Skills: +4 racial on Listen and Spot, +8 racial on Hide and Move Silently, does not suffer skill check penalties due to darkness.
Control Light (Sp)
Fast Healing 2
Invisibility (Sp)
Shadesight (Sp)
Shadow Image (Sp)
Shadow Stride (Sp)
Shadow Travel (Sp)
SR 11 + character level
Level Adjustment: +4, but you can't have this template unless you are at least 5th level.

...the only difference I see with this and the one in the FRCS is the Level Adjustment...

It's only +4 in RoF? I have to check that out at home. I thought it was +5 in the FRCS errata?

Anyways, Shade is very, very, very good template. Notify that it is a template. You can have Thri-Kreen/Shade according to rules, or dwarf/shade. Of course, if you go by the RoF information about shades, the shade must be one of the most trusted members of the shade princes honour guard. Shades are totally loyal to the princes and only reason they are outside the city of shade is that they have some mission to accomplish for the princes.

Also, the shadowstep ability is quite near one of the abilities a GOD can pick up in Deities&Demigods...

As a move action, shade can move from shadow to shadow up to 300 feet. They CAN act after the move. And they get to use this ability every second round. This one ability is definitely tough.

As a spell like ability though, it provokes an attack of opportunity if used within a threatened space right? So using it to step 'out' of combat would provoke an attack before you left, right?

All shade abilities I see are listed as (Sp) and thus spell like abilities that provoke an AoO? Would concentration checks to cast defensively be appropriate?

I don't have the two books in front of me right now to compare, but I believe that ACTUALLY in Races of Faerun, the +4 luck bonus on saves was a new ability not included in the template in the FRCS.
