Slightly Off-Topic: I can't wait til Faiths and Pantheons comes out in May. That's gonna detail the Chosen for the top 30 gods.

Are you sure about detailing the chosen....I haven't seen anything saying they'll be in the book....There's gonna be specialty priests of the "top" gods....which aren't their chosen....just prestige classes from the faith

Very good points about the ECL. I like the idea of not awarding the XP as an offset. I was thinking about this too: what if he has to take the Hierophant prestige class for those 4 levels to "qualify" for Chosen? Hierophant doesn't give the character the "+1 existing spellcasting level" as most prestige classes do. Granted, he would get the Hierophant powers, but those come at a cost (spell slots.) So he'd be sacrificing quite a bit of spellcasting power. Maybe then he'd get the one Chosen ability per level as a reward for the spellcasting sacrifice. Thoughts?

this is just a warning.
I belive that good role playing should be rewarded but, you also ahve to think on how other players will react and if it will unbalance the group. If you give the template I would try to make sure that you kept the group balanced. That doen't mean that eeryone gets something special just slow down his progression as recommend above. i would try to also make it a point of motivation to the other players. inspire them to better roleplaying.

Don't remember where I heard it, but from what I understand, yes that book will have Chosen for the top 30 gods. Hell, I've been at the WoTC Forgotten Realms message board for the past few days arguing with people who hate the fact that the Chosen will be in the book and want them taken out so that they can fit in more Prestige Classes.

Whatever the case, with any luck that book'll also detail rules on how to make PC's Chosen, in which case all of Paladins' problems will be solved.
