My tale of woe is most convoluted, but entirely true! My first impedement to going to GenCon is that I am a contracted performer at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival. It runs every weekend starting August 13 through September 26 (I think that's when we end). Sort of makes it hard to make my contracted appearances if I am having fun at GenCon. Secondly, it's quite difficult for me to find someone to look after my diabetic cat while I am gone. He needs insulin shots twice a day I can get people to do it during the run of the festival because I can bribe them with tickets. Not many of my cat sitters are gamers, so it is tough to bribe them with GenCon stuff. Next is the fact that a member of my household has been unemployed since April. Since he is 1/3 of the bill payers in the house, the other 2/3 have had to take up the slack. This has eliminated a great many fun things, like gaming supplies, movies, and trips. We hope he'll have a job soon, as our reserve money is running out. Finally, and probably most importantly, there are health issues. Earlier this year I was admitted to the hospital with what they thought at first was a heart attack. Turns out I was lucky and that was not the case. They did discover, however, that I have an affliction known as pleuricy. To put it into simple terms the lung likes to stick to the chest wall, pulling it in a direction it was not meant to go. This makes breathing difficult and painful. It's not a constant thing, but boy does it makes you tired by the end of the day. Add arthritic joints to the issue, and a bit of claustrophobia, and you can see why going to gaming conventions is not easy. Maybe one day I will go. Maybe I will rent a scooter (or a Segway) to eliminate the walking and put less stress on the joints. Thanks again, this is very kind of you to help out we Sad Sacks who cannot make it to GenCon. Gosh, that comment right there shows my age, doesn't it? :(
