Not enough to blog about (and I don't blog), but I've been doing freelance cartography for both TRAILSeeker and EN5ider online magazines - I've done 4 maps so far, but don't necessarily know which magazines/game systems each map is specifically targetted. Its been a good experience from a freelancers point of view. I was the first cartographer to send an email of interest, and the first one the art director contacted back. Since I responded with my NDA and contract a day after receiving them and completed the first map 2 days later. Because of my fast response (apparently the other interested cartographers didn't immediately respond), so I was given first choice on which maps I wanted to take as commissions. I was able to get the room gazetteer text from the authors (through the art director from the editors) to get details of what is supposed to be in each mapped area, which allowed me to repeat the detail of what was written as map objects in my hand-drawn creations. The art director has been quick to respond to any questions I've had. The pay is decent and turn-around between map completion and getting paid is relatively fast. So altogether, its been a good experience and I look forward to more cartography commissions to support these great magazines. Although not directly related, but Morrus commissioned me to create the large format, hand-drawn version of the Quick Start-up Map for What's O.L.D. is N.E.W. I think my relationship with TRAILSeeker/EN5IDER got my foot in the door for that work.
