My mother suggested to me that I watch this show and Flash Forward. She's likes science fiction and TV (so does my wife) a lot more than I do, but from what I saw I liked both shows. But then again I think TV is undergoing a sort of Renaissance at the moment.

This show kinda reminded me of the X-Files.
But with less mood music.

It does touch on a lot of x-files, in fact, they even acknowledge and reference that fact. For instance, their Fringe division that they work for now was specifically said to have at one time been called "That X name that we used to call it" (something like that).

But I find the pacing a bit more consistent in fringe than xfiles was. they have the freak issue of the week, but they also have been doing a decent job of generally advancing the overarching plots.

I think they have learned a lot from the X-Files. they can have monster shows but they involve the over all plot in them more and make that intercect with seemingly every episode even if it is in minor ways. I loved the X-m Files and have really been enjoying Fringe.
