Fun low level paladin combo

First Post
Okay, so I was helping my girlfriend roll up her character for the 4th edition campaign and she stumbled upon a pretty nice little move for her CON focused half-elf paladin.

For her at-will gained as an encounter, she chose the warlock power 'dire radiance'. Dire radiance is something like

con vs will Range 10

1d6+ con damage. If the creature moves closer to you on its next turn, it takes another 1d6+ con damage.

Neat. She can mark and do this in the same turn, a pretty effective opening for a low level encounter, I would say.

If say, the Bugbear Molester decides to charge the party at the begining of the encounter, he will take 2d6+8 damage + mark damage if he attacks someone other than the paladin.

Just thought I'd share. (PS: EVERYTHING IS AWSOME)

It also works fine with the Divine Challenge, I think.
The Divine Challenge forces the target to either deal damage or attack the Paladin.
But the Dire Radiance means it takes damage if it approaches the Paladin.

So, damned if you do, damned if you don't. ;)

Off course, an artillery or controller monster will just shoot you from distance. ;)

That is an awesome combo.

Of course, it does involve pledging one's soul to both Pelor and Cthulhu at 1st level...

Cheers, -- N

Mustrum: when I said mark i meant Divine Challenge, so yeah, we are on the same page :)

Yeah, I'm DMing, so when she picked out the power she was like "DAMNIT THATS AWSOME, awww, wait, it wouldnt make sense for a nieve young paladin of Pelor to have a spell like that" "Well no, but go ahead and take it anyway... I'm sure Isabella (her paladin) will understand the ability in time *Maniacle laugh*"

hehehe, she was unnerved, but she still put it on her character sheet! It will tie into her story some time later, Im sure.

I would love to see (when I actually get the books) powerplays like those that appeared in Dragon back in the early months of 3E. A key one for me would be good at-wills to be encounter powers, since I think a lot of people are disappointed with half-elves.
