Possessed of a violent, jealous hatred of all living sentients and a conviction that they can experience the life and sensation denied them by consuming the brains of the living, the sybarites torment the surrounding areas with their depredations. While the programme responsible for the creation of the sybarites has been officially halted, rumours persist that their numbers are growing. It is possible that the programme continues unofficially, or perhaps some of the more advanced sybarites have learned the arcane methods necessary to propogate their species. A sybarite stands between 6 and 7 feet tall, and weigh about 300 pounds. Sybarites can speak Common, but rarely bother. Combat Sybarites fight with a singular purpose: to kill sentient creatures and consume their brains. Although neither particularly intelligent nor terribly cunning, they will break off a combat if it appears that they will not be able to accomplish their goal. If it seems likely that they will succeed, however, they will fight tooth and nail -- quite literally. Sybarites can control certain lesser undead in their area, but prefer to strike the killing blow themselves so that they may feast upon the living brains of their opponents. Armour Plating (Ex): Sybarites are partially covered with metallic plating that provides them with a +2 armour bonus. This is treated as light armour, not natural armour, meaning that the sybarite cannot wear armour or robes, and it provides a 5% arcane spell failure chance. Any class feature that permits a character to ignore arcane spell failure due to armour applies to armour plating as well. Brain Consumption (Ex): When the sybarite makes a successful grapple check to deal damage with its bite against a pinned or helpless living foe, the target must succeed on a fortitude save (DC 14) or die as the sybarite consumes its brain. Creatures immune to critical hits and those with multiple heads are not killed by this attack, but take bite damage as normal. The save is Strength-based. Command Zombies (Su): A sybarite can automatically command all zombies within 30 feet as a free action. Zombies never attack a sybarite unless compelled. Unnatural Aura (Su): As a fusion of unnatural magics, sybarites cause any creature of the animal type within 30 feet to become panicked and remain so until the distance between them is greater than 30 feet. Turn Resistance Ex: Sybarites have turn resistance +2. Sybarites With Class Levels Most sybarites are fighters or barbarians, while a few are rangers who select their favoured enemy from the humanoid races. Due to their armour plating and low mental scores, few Sybarites are spellcasters, although those that are are often leaders. A sybarite's favoured class is fighter. ---- For the sybarite, I used a 2nd level Warforged Warrior and applied the Dread Zombie template. They can certainly be worked into any setting in which the warforged exist, but I think they also stand on their own, and I'd like to think that the additional traits would get them approval even from the anti-"robot" crowd. :)
