Gambling and the stake.

The Gambling skill says that a character gets a bonus to his skill check roll based on the difference between his Wealth rating and the stake he buys.

So a poorer character gets a larger bonus!

I think I understand the rationale behind this, but I'd like to hear other thoughts?

It's not that the character is poorer, per say, it's that he's risking more and is therefore more committed to winning (or that's how I view it). A kind of built-in circumstance bonus. Often that doesn't help much but the idea is nice.

Mechanically, it hasn't come up in any of my games yet, so I can't comment upon it's balance (or lack of).
