The idea of a steady group is fascinating to me. I don't have one. I play in the Living Greyhawk campaigns, so we have different players at every table I sit down at. My perception of D&D is warped a bit, I think. I would love to be able to use rule variants and the like, but the Living Campaigns through RPGA are pretty regulated about what rules can/cannot be used. Everytime I've sat down at a table, there may be one or two people I know, but the rest are by-and-large strangers. Role-playing is not given the leeway it has in home games, because most adventures are under time constraints (5 hours from beginning to end, including paperwork), so we don't get to explore as much as we could in home games. The wierdest part is sitting down with a group you don't know. It's wonderful to meet people and make new friends, and revel in the one thing you have in common: D&D. But it would be nice to have a steady, ongoing, story-based campaign that could appeal to different elements of the game, rather than the (sadly) min/max hack-n-slash that some Living games degenerate into. It's hard to create intrigue and mystique on a state-wide scale, rather than at single table... However, I take solace int he fact that there are 14,000 players that also opt to play in this fashion sometimes. I dunno if they have home games to go to, but it's nice to sometimes see friendly faces over and over again... Just my two cents! --Coreyartus
