As Isida said, there are more than a few people who start DM here for the first time. I'm one. The slower pace is a good thing in this, there is no need for any on the spot decisions. You have time to consider your responses, review the rules, ask your grannie. What people really look for is commitment, and consistancy. In my experience, there is always a market for 'regular' dnd games, and enough people around to make the more unusual setting/rules/ideas doable (like some wierd ass homebrew classless grim and gritty rules game). There are a number of ways of setting up a game. Take a look at some of the opening pages of the ooc threads to get an idea of some of the options. Off the top of my head, some things to think about: - Selection process: by expressions of interest? by completed character? by closed submission? - Accepted resourses: Core books only? The Complete XXX? Other material only by request? - Level? - Race/class/alignment restrictions? - Stats: point buy? online dice roller? set stat arrays? - Starting Gold? - Starting equipment and magic restictions? Some DM's set a max amount that can be spent on a single item. I've generally found a opening post that sets the scene somewhat tends to generate more interest than a straight technical breakdown of the recruiting and generation rules. But again, take a look around and see what appeals. have fun thotd.
