My wife wasn't wasn't really a gamer. There were several boardgames she enjoyed playing with my and my family (Life, Killer Bunnies, and Carcasonne were the big three), but mostly, she wasn't a gamer. She supported my gaming habits, though. While she would occasionally caution me about buying another book I didn't really need, she never complained (well, except that I seemed to put more money towards the game than ANY of my players) and was very supportive about me having bi-weekly games. She would even go out and do the food run for us and would often bake cookies or brownies for us to have. I did allow her to have final say about who was in the gaming group, though, because we held the games in our home. She even would buy me gaming paraphernalia on occasion. Some of you may know how this story ends (especially if you're involved with the ENnies), but for many of you, this will be news. I don't really post here much, but I haven't even visited ENWorld in the past couple of months because of this (until today). I'm not fishing for sympathy, these are just the facts: Sadly, she passed away this past Veteran's Day and I've been having a hard time getting back into the game. She was a great supporter of everything I did and gaming just doesn't seem to have the same joy as it did when I had someone to show an interest in my enjoyment of the game (even if she didn't participate or really know anything about the game). I mean, you gotta love someone who doesn't bat an eye when you tell her you just bought a $120 book from Monte Cook. I don't want to de-rail the thread, but I think it's important, if you have a significant other, that they at least support your gaming habits. It's no fun to have them constantly at odds with it; it does take up a significant amount of time, after all. Especially if you're the DM.
