D&D simply doesn't support the freeform combination of traditional fantasy, non-traditional fantasy, modern settings, and futuristic settings in a way that is really necessary for it to perfectly match up with the broad definition of "fantasy" that has become so much more common over the last several years. Whether 1E supported it or not, the segregation between D&D and D20 Modern in the 3E era, and the lack of even basic firearms rules in the 4E rulebooks so far, are reason enough for me to make my point.</blockquote>
