[QUOTE="Amal Shukup, post: 1751007, member: 6291"] Our group built a table. Or rather, a table top designed to rest on my dining room table. 7 feet by 4 feet Rectangular. Made of 1/4" plywood with 1" x 1" 'runners' screwed underneath (so it fits snug to the base table). This is then glued/laminated to a 1/16th" 'white' board (I'm not sure what it's for, but it's white, quite thin, and smooth). This surface is then marked out into 1" by 1" squares using indelible fine tip. We use dry erase markers and cut out 'transparency material' 'trees', 'roads' 'rocks' etc. to create our combat areas. We also have a sheet of a soft rubbery fabric (also bought at the hardware store) to protect the Base Table Top. In HINDSIGHT... - 7'x4' is too big. I'd like to cut off at least a foot. - Indelible marker still wears away (over multiple months). Fine line routing for the lines would be much more laborious, but better. Perhaps leave a foot around the outside not marked so people's elbows don't wear away the lines so much. - Oval would be cool... - Perhaps different materials: Plywood is heavy. - Large bright white surface is a bit 'tiring' for eyes and doesn't really set the mood. Not certain what to do. A darker surface with lighter (routed) lines would be cool, but obviously LESS good for transparencies and dry erase... Perhaps just a light tan, or neutral color...
